Job description

Hinge is the dating app designed to be deleted

In today's digital world, finding genuine relationships is tougher than ever. At Hinge, we’re on a mission to inspire intimate connection to create a less lonely world. We’re obsessed with understanding our users’ behaviors to help them find love, and our success is defined by one simple metric– setting up great dates. With millions of users across the globe, we’ve become the most trusted way to find a relationship, for all.

About the Role:

At Hinge, we’re building a dating app that’s designed to be deleted. Creating an environment where people feel safe, respected, and empowered is foundational to that mission. Our Trust & Safety team plays a critical role in protecting our community and designing systems that foster genuine connection.

We’re looking for a Director of Product Design to lead design across the Trust & Safety domain. This is a senior people leadership role responsible for elevating craft, shaping strategy, and building strong cross‑functional partnerships in one of the most important areas of our product.

Responsibilities

Design Leadership and Execution : Lead design across Trust & Safety, setting direction for how safety and trusted connection show up throughout the Hinge experience. Guide your team in turning ambiguous problem spaces and strategic priorities into thoughtful user journeys and high‑quality product experiences. Stay close to the work to ensure clarity, cohesion, and strong execution from concept through launch.

Craft and Systems Thinking : Maintain a high bar for visual, interaction, and systems thinking across squads. Ensure safety experiences feel intuitive, human, and cohesive. Partner with Design Systems and Content Design to evolve scalable patterns that support complex, emotionally nuanced moments.

Mentorship and Influence : Manage and develop a team of four designers across three squads, including product and content design. Provide clear direction, meaningful feedback, and growth pathways. Lead critiques that elevate quality, model strong collaboration, and foster a culture of curiosity, experimentation, and healthy debate.

Strategic Collaboration and Impact : Partner closely with senior leaders across Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, Operations, and Policy to shape vision and align priorities. Influence roadmap decisions, bring design into strategic conversations early, and ensure Trust & Safety teams experience Design as a true thought partner.

Innovation and Forward Thinking : Champion design‑led innovation in one of the most emotionally complex areas of our product. Encourage experimentation and forward‑looking solutions that strengthen user trust while supporting business and operational realities.

What We’re Looking For

5+ years of experience managing product designers, including senior‑level talent

Previously operated as a Lead‑level IC before moving into management

Proven track record of developing designers and building high‑performing teams

Strong design instincts and the ability to recognize and elevate quality work

Experienced in driving work from ambiguous problem space to shipped product

Skilled at building strategic partnerships with senior Product and Engineering leaders

Clear, compelling communicator who can create energy around complex domains

Bonus Experience

Experience designing for Trust & Safety, community health, marketplace integrity, identity, or privacy.

Familiarity with experimentation, behavioral frameworks, or machine learning signals used to detect or prevent harmful interactions.

Content design management experience is a plus, but not required.

As a member of our team, you’ll enjoy:

401(k) Matching: We match 100% of the first 10% of pre‑tax 401(k) contributions you make, up to a maximum of $10,000 per year.

Professional Growth: Get an annual Learning & Development stipend once you’ve been with us for three months. You also get free access to Udemy, an online learning and teaching marketplace with over 6000 courses, starting your first day.

Parental Leave & Planning: When you become a new parent, you’re eligible for 100% paid parental leave (20 paid weeks for both birth and non‑birth parents.)

Fertility Support: You’ll get easy access to fertility care through Carrot, from basic treatments to fertility preservation. We also provide a stipend towards fertility preservation. You and your spouse/domestic partner are both eligible.

ERGs: We have eight Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)—Asian, Unapologetic, Disability, LGBTQIA+, Raices, Women/Nonbinary, Parents— that hold regular meetings, host events, and provide dedicated support to the organization & its community.

At Hinge, our core values are…

Authenticity: We share, never hide, our words, actions and intentions.

Courage: We embrace lofty goals and tough challenges.

Empathy: We deeply consider the perspective of others.
