From residential meal plans to event catering, we provide nutritional food for students, faculty, staff and guests. We manage over a dozen eating establishments at NIU including residence hall dining, restaurants and coffee shops at the student center, and the cafe in Barsema Hall. We employ the students and professionals who work in our restaurants and cafes.Position Summary - The Distribution Clerk delivers products, equipment and other supplies to Holmes Student Center (H.S.C.) supported areas of campus using a University vehicle. The Distribution Clerk may also support Catering and other on campus events including setup up tear down and clean up.Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Catering AssistanceDelivers catered food, equipment, and other supplies to off premise locations for catered events.Assists in setting up, maintaining, and cleaning of catered events.CommunicationInteracts with managers & crew of satellite operations to determine and maintain stock needs.Communicates product & supply needs/usages to storekeeper & managers to insure proper product levels/availability.Customer ServiceAssists in covering breaks and providing assistance at various dining locations when staffing needs warrant such activities.DeliveryDelivers product and supplies to Satellite food operations on a daily basis.SanitationMaintains sanitation and quality standards in accordance with Illinois Food Handlers Permit.Other Related DutiesPerforms other related duties as assigned.Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service) - High school graduation or equivalent.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service) - Knowledge of simple clerical procedures.Ability to follow instructions.Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, such as moving heavy objects, bending, standing, lifting, and other manual dexterity tasks.Willingness to work, as directed, in all kinds of weather.Specialty Factors (Civil Service) - Valid Illinois driver's license.Preferred Qualifications (Civil Service) - Illinois Food Handlers permit upon hire.One (1) year of general food service experience.One (1) year of Box Truck driving experience.Ability to communicate clearly with others.Physical demands/requirements - Ability to work long shifts.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.Ability to push, pull, carry and move heavy loads.Ability to stoop, bend, climb and grasp.Good hand/eye coordination.Ability to communicate clearly with others.Ability to load and unload trucks, including securing cargo.Ability to work in a fast paced environment, often in inclement weather.Ability to work night, early morning and weekend shifts, as common for this position.Appointment and Compensation DetailsAnticipated Appointment Start Date - 11/1/2026Percent of Staff Year - 0.75Standard Hours Per Week - 37.50Working Hours - Varies based on department needs, includes nights & weekendsSalary - $27,787.50/annually (based on 9-month appointment); NIU offers a robust benefits package.Hourly or Semi-monthly Pay Rate/Range - $19.00Earn Type - HourlyApplication ProcedureApplication Procedure - Application Procedures:Fullycomplete the Education and Work History sections of the application.
