Groundman - OverheadThe Overhead Groundman position is your first step to a rewarding career in the construction and maintenance of our nation's Power Grid. You will assist your team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems.
Primary Responsibilities:
Assist fellow line-workers in meeting project goalsJoin storm restoration efforts in times of needFollow company safety rules and policies while performing new construction or maintenance of energized high voltage systems and de-energized overhead workInspect rubber goods and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and wear it properly.String overhead wire, set poles and anchorsHelp install transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, cross-arms, insulators, switches, and switchgearHelp replace fuses in transformers and clear faulty circuits and systemsMaintain and operate company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working orderPerform rigorous physical laborUse company radioUnderstand basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tyingReceive and follow directionsHave a basic knowledge of materials used in line workIdentify primary and secondary voltage on a circuitPerform basic bucket rescue/escapeWork at heights and confined spacesPhysical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the responsibilities of this job, you talk and hear. The job frequently requires you to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel; and reach with hands and arms.Work Environment: While performing the responsibilities of this job, you are frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. You are occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. An employee performs this position in outside-weather conditions.Competencies:Team-OrientedCustomer OrientedFamiliarity with Induced Voltages.Understanding of the basic concepts of equipment set up and grounding.Understanding of the minimum approach distanceRequired Qualifications:Must have Valid Driver's License.Able to travel long distances at short notice.Work for extended periods in multiple locations.Able to lift an excess of 50 lbs.Willing to work overtime when requested.This is a safety sensitive position that requires employees to be able to pass a background check and drug screen as required for this job.Work authorization requirements: Must meet I-9 requirements.
