DME Specialist

Summary
The Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Specialist orders medical equipment on behalf of patients for home use. They effectively communicate with all parties involved to ensure appropriate and timely ordering and delivery of equipment. The DME Specialist stays current with all Medicare and DME guidelines and remains compliant with all legal and company rules and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Orders DME as prescribed by the physician
Requests and obtains appropriate documentation from physician
Ensures that field staff receive required forms for completion and return
Sends all necessary forms and ordering information to DME Vendors
Ensures that DME is ordered and delivered in a time sensitive manner for all hospital and nursing home discharges
Communicates with nurses, therapists, and community educators on a daily basis in regards to DME questions such as coverage for items needed, special orders, updates on orders previously placed, delivery times, and equipment qualifications
Maintains positive working relationships with DME vendors and physician offices
Completes daily database workflow for items being requested from field staff assist
Completes hospital hold workflow which may include faxing summary to hospital and following up on hospitalized patients
Maintains log for office owned equipment relating to therapy requests (tens units, ultrasound units, and light DME)
Understands and practices agency policies and procedures
Stays current with DME guidelines
Stays up-to-date with competitive bid guidelines under Medicare
Keeps office owned equipment up-to-code by ensuring yearly calibrations are performed as ordered
Understands and practices all HIPAA regulations
Answers company overflow phone calls
Arrives at assigned location on scheduled workday. Works according to designated hours.
Stays current with all Medicare and DME guidelines.
Knowledge & utilization of HCHB software.
Ability to communicate using voice and email in building working relationships with patients, vendors and employees.
Performs duties consistently with the use of a computer, fax, copier and phone.
Completes and submits all required documentation within specified company requirements.
Dexterity & vision to complete documentation on computer.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
2 years of experience in the medical equipment/healthcare field. DME background preferable.
Knowledge of DME ordering and insurance guidelines. Familiar with medical equipment and terminology.
Ability to research equipment online.
Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, video/graphic programs, and ability to learn new software systems and databases.
Ability to create positive impressions and communicate with a variety of people.
Observant and detail oriented.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
Ability to follow directions and work as a team member.
