Job description
Shift SupervisorThe Correctional Shift Supervisor position serves as a supervisor in IDOC facilities and is a vital position for the custody, control, and safety of all IDOC facilities. The ideal candidate should be able to manage issues and concerns of staff and individuals in custody to facilitate effective operations of the facility. Essential functions include planning, coordinating, and directing a security force in housing and custodial services on an assigned shift, serving as a full-line supervisor, coordinating security for vocational, education/treatment, activity-based programs, and preparing and submitting various reports.Minimum qualifications require knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school and completion of an approved correctional officer trainee program. Requires five (5) years of supervisory experience as a supervisor or lead worker of correctional employees in a custody program in a correctional institution or setting. Preferred qualifications include at least two (2) years of experience in a penal or security institution serving in a role equivalent to IDOC Correctional Sergeant or Correctional Lieutenant, experience using Microsoft Outlook, Disciplinary Tracking, or similar software, and experience with roster management and overtime equalization.The position requires the ability to carry a firearm, pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check, and pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee is prohibited. This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public.
