Enforcement SergeantThis is a departmental promotional or detail opportunity open to DOTD employees only. We are proud to serve the people of Louisiana with integrity, innovation, and a deep commitment to equity.The DOTD Enforcement Sergeant serves as a commissioned law enforcement supervisor within the Weight Enforcement Unit at an assigned fixed-scale facility. The position is responsible for supervising personnel and ensuring the consistent enforcement of state and federal size, weight, permit, registration, and taxation regulations. The incumbent provides field guidance, oversees investigations and enforcement activities, manages daily operations and personnel assignments, and ensures compliance with DOTD policies, procedures, and required certifications while supporting the safety of Louisiana's highway system.While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.Minimum QualificationsFour years of law enforcement experience in the protection of transportation infrastructure; OR Five years of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer commissioned with the power of arrest. Necessary special requirements: Possession of a valid driver's license. Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification. An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.Job Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:Supervise weight enforcement operations by providing field guidance to police officers and compliance inspectors, assigning duties, monitoring enforcement activities, and ensuring state and federal regulations are applied fairly and consistently.Oversee personnel and daily operations by preparing work schedules, briefing staff on policies and procedures, assisting with training, maintaining records, and communicating operational information and directives to subordinate personnel.Conduct and oversee investigations and enforcement activities including major events, evidence handling, seizures, criminal and regulatory investigations, and other duties requiring advanced police skills and independent judgment.Manage administrative and facility responsibilities by ensuring reports and timekeeping are completed accurately, conducting performance evaluations, maintaining equipment and inventory, coordinating supplies and facility needs, and assisting with emergency or disaster response activities.Position Specific Details: Appointment Type: Promotional or Detail to Special Duty Work Location(s): Delta, LAPlease refer to the "Job Specifications" tab located at the top of the LA Careers "Current Job Opportunities" page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualification and job concepts for each level.No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.To apply for this vacancy, click on the "Apply" link above and complete an electronic application, which can be used for this vacancy as well as future job opportunities.
