DSHS Rainier – Boiler Operator (Stationary Engineer 2)Whether you are seeking supplemental income, hands-on experience, a flexible schedule, or a pathway into a State career, this opportunity can help you reach your goals. The Maintenance and Operations Division (MOD) at Rainier School Habilitation Center in Buckley, Washington is hiring an experienced Boiler Operator (Stationary Engineer 2) on an on-call basis. During the initial six months or longer, this position is expected to work full-time in a temporary capacity to support onboarding and training needs. Following this period, the role will transition to on-call status, with shifts scheduled as needed, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.Some of what you'll do:Ensure the safe and efficient operation of a high-pressure steam plant with two steam-generating boilersMonitor, inspect, and repair gauges, valves, pumps, boilers, electronic controls, and safety equipment to maintain continuous operation of the steam-boiler systemOperate and maintain auxiliary systems, including feed-water and condensate pumps, deaerators, air compressors, fuel systems, and emergency generatorsTroubleshoot and perform both minor and major repairs on boiler and HVAC systemsInterpret schematics, drawings, and operating manuals to support proper operation and equipment upgradesOperate and adjust Cleaver-Brooks Boiler Management (HAWK) systems as neededConduct equipment testing, water treatment, and blow-down procedures to ensure safe and compliant operationsDesired skills, knowledge, and abilities:Ability to safely work from ladders or elevated platforms, including in high ambient temperature environmentsProficiency in using personal computers and Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPointStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact respectfully and effectively with individuals who have limited sensory and physical abilitiesDemonstrated commitment to treating all individuals with dignity, respect, and cultural sensitivityAbility to collaborate professionally with coworkers from diverse backgroundsFlexibility and responsiveness to address facility maintenance needs, including after-hours and emergent situationsWho should apply? We are seeking professionals who meet one of the following qualifications:Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and/or repair of stationary or marine high-pressure boilers and heating systemsCompletion of an advanced Stationary Engineer course from an accredited vocational/technical school or community college, and two years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and/or repair of stationary or marine high-pressure boilers and heating systemsOne year of State service as a Stationary Engineer 1Note: Boiler designations are defined in accordance with Washington Boilers and Unfired Pressure Vessels Law.
