You will be a member of a team of engineers responsible for the delivery electronic products used in our high-consequence, high-reliability systems. You will have the opportunity to support multiple weapon programs, engage with subject matter experts (SMEs) across Sandia, and work closely with the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC). The work is critical to ensuring the success of our nation's defense by assuring only quality products capable of meeting demanding performance specifications and reliability requirements are delivered. The department operates in a fast-paced, schedule driven environment, and meeting deadlines is essential to our success due to the focus of our work. We have the need for an individual who has a good understanding of the makeup of electronic components, how designs perform through adverse environments, and how to test for and analyze electronic performance in degraded environments. This position offers the opportunity to develop a depth of knowledge and to influence the foundational components of our high-reliability systems.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, major component and systems engineers, as well as SMEs across Sandia and KCNSC to ensure comprehensive technical assurance through rigorous design, testing and analysis.

Document engineering and design decisions to ensure the preservation of all testing and associated analysis.

Plan, support, and execute testing activities; analyze test data; and document and present data on the results product performance.

Provide SME expertise on assigned products.

Interface with product realization teams, test facilities personnel, suppliers, purchase product and quality engineers, electrical test engineers, etc.

Support production activities at KCNSC.

Coordinate and collaborate with commercial electronics manufacturers.

Perform failure analysis.

Applicants on this requisition may be interviewed by multiple organizations at Sandia National Laboratories.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

About Our Team

The High-reliability Electronic Components group is responsible for the specification, characterization, assurance, production, and procurement of high reliability electronic products for ND programs and other national security customers. The group is composed of talented staff who specialize in both custom and commercial products, and is home to the Electronic Parts Program, an integrated activity that identifies the future technology needs of our customers and leads the technical, supply chain and requirements efforts needed to ensure our design partners can use them with confidence. The group is growing and changing the paradigm for electronic part use in ND systems. We are relentlessly focused on improving our systems, culture, structure, processes, and people to achieve world-class performance in our field.

Within this group, the High Reliability Commercial Technologies department provides accurate and timely information about commercial-off-the-shelf electronic components, assesses their suitability for use in high reliability and strategic applications, leads component qualification activities and assures supply chain integrity in support of our national objectives. The team consists of component engineers with diverse technical backgrounds that provides the ability to holistically evaluate commercial electronic parts.

Posting Duration

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of three (3) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

EEO

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
