Job description
Early Childhood Assistant
Lewis-Palmer School District 38, located in Monument, CO, is looking for a part time Early Childhood Assistant for the school year at Ray E. Kilmer Elementary School. The Early Childhood Assistant works directly with the preschool classroom teachers to care for and educate preschool age children through age-appropriate learning experiences. Preschool classrooms are inclusive environments that serve students with various developmental needs. A person in this position is responsible for all children in the classroom.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
Facilitating positive play and interactions by participating with children throughout the class period including centers, recess, and snack
Assisting in preparing lesson materials and classroom activities that foster exploration and independence by utilizing the approved curriculum
Providing assistance to children who require differentiated learning experiences
Assisting students with self-help skills such as hand-washing, coats, toileting, diapering, and opening snacks
Contributing actively to the goals and success of all teams and team members through collaboration, cooperation, and flexibility in team discussions, activities, and decision making
Recording observations of student learning and development under the guidance of the classroom teacher
Maintaining a healthy and safe learning environment and assisting with setting up and cleaning the classroom
Assisting with record keeping under the guidance of the classroom lead teacher
Completing annual training required by the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC)
Attending meetings as related to the school site and preschool program
Performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications include:
High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Associate degree in Early Childhood or meet the CDEC licensing requirements for Assistant Group Leader (7.702.45).
Criminal background checks required for hire by the district and by CDEC
CPR and First Aid certification
Additional annual and one-time trainings required by the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (7.702.42)

Knowledge skills and abilities include:
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal relation skills
General knowledge in concepts of child growth and development and child behavior characteristics
Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks with frequent interruptions
Ability to demonstrate an understanding, patience, warmth and receptive attitude toward children
Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents and the general public
Ability to maintain excellent attendance
Critical thinking and problem solving skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Other work factors include:
Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is may be required to stand for long periods of time in addition to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently. May require some exposure to bodily fluids.
Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a typical classroom environment and occasionally the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions.
After appropriate training, the employee may need to administer medications.
Mental functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, compare, analyze, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, and use interpersonal skills.
