Position Summary

The Safety Specialist leads the development, execution, and continuous improvement of site-wide safety and occupational health programs. Reporting directly to plant leadership, this role is dedicated to eliminating workplace hazards, driving proactive risk management, and fostering a strong, zero-incident safety culture across all manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

Program Development & Execution: Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive occupational safety and health policies in full compliance with OSHA, state, and federal standards.

Hazard Identification & Mitigation: Lead risk assessments, job safety analyses (JSAs), and root-cause incident investigations; establish tracking mechanisms to prioritize and resolve safety action items.

Safety Culture & Change Management: Serve as an on-the-floor champion for behavioral safety, driving employee engagement and facilitating cross-functional change management initiatives.

Operational Partnership: Collaborate closely with plant leadership, production supervisors, and maintenance teams to integrate safety best practices into everyday manufacturing workflows.

Committee Leadership: Lead and facilitate the site Safety Committee, coordinating resources and tracking the closure of identified safety and industrial hygiene projects.

Environmental & Compliance Reporting: Support environmental compliance, auditing, and regulatory reporting requirements for the facility.

Training & Subject-Matter Expertise: Develop and deliver interactive safety training programs; maintain up-to-date expertise in regulatory standards, industrial hygiene, and ergonomics.

Vendor & Consultant Oversight: Manage third-party safety, industrial hygiene, and occupational health consultants to ensure high-quality service delivery within budgetary targets.

Required

Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a related technical discipline.

Experience: 1–3+ years of safety, industrial hygiene, or EHS experience within a heavy manufacturing or industrial environment.

Regulatory Knowledge: Solid foundation in OSHA regulations, hazard communication, LOTO, machine guarding, and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards.

Core Competencies: Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills, with a proven ability to influence teams and drive accountability across all organizational levels.

Legal Authorization: U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency (Green Card) is strictly required due to access to ITAR/export-controlled military technologies.
