Job description

Role Overview

Apply practical electrical and hardware engineering judgment to advanced engineering and AI research work. This remote role focuses on evaluating technical designs, troubleshooting methods, and real-world hardware solutions where production experience, rigorous analysis, and hands-on perspective matter.

Key Responsibilities

Apply hands-on electrical and hardware expertise to complex engineering tasks.

Review hardware designs, engineering workflows, technical analyses, and troubleshooting approaches.

Analyze design trade-offs, failure modes, measurements, test results, and system-level decisions.

Evaluate the technical accuracy and real-world practicality of proposed hardware solutions.

Identify errors, unstated assumptions, impractical recommendations, and design or implementation risks.

Create or review rigorous engineering problems, reference solutions, evaluation criteria, and supporting documentation.

Use experience in development, validation, bring-up, debugging, manufacturing, and testing to provide clear, experience-based technical feedback.

Qualifications

At least 5 years of professional industry experience, including 3 or more recent years of actively hands-on hardware development, testing, bring-up, validation, or troubleshooting.

Experience serving as the responsible engineer for substantial parts of a hardware-development or engineering workflow, rather than exclusively managing teams or projects.

Deep expertise in at least one area: RF systems, antennas, electromagnetic design, or RF validation; power electronics, power conversion, motor drives, or power delivery; analog or mixed-signal circuit design; PCB architecture, schematic design, board bring-up, or hardware debugging; or signal integrity, power integrity, high-speed interfaces, or system-level electrical validation.

Strong understanding of component selection, tolerances, measurement, manufacturing, reliability, thermal considerations, and system integration.

Experience debugging physical hardware with appropriate laboratory equipment, simulation tools, and engineering instrumentation.

Ability to communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, and failure modes clearly and rigorously.

Preferred Background

Experience at an organization that designs and manufactures physical hardware products is strongly preferred. Relevant backgrounds include aerospace and defense, space, automotive and EV, semiconductors, consumer electronics and computing, drones, eVTOL, robotics, industrial technology, energy, and medical devices. Candidates from comparable hardware-focused organizations are encouraged to apply.

Work Terms

Remote, hourly engagement with flexible engagement structures.

Contribute alongside experienced engineers and researchers on challenging problems spanning hardware engineering and AI research.

Compensation

$100 to $120 per hour.
