About the Role
Our client seeks a qualified Electrical Design Engineer to join their team supporting the vital mining sector in the Welkom area. This hybrid role involves designing, specifying, and overseeing the implementation of electrical infrastructure and systems for mining operations. You will contribute to projects that enhance safety, efficiency, and productivity in a demanding industrial environment. This is a significant opportunity for an engineer looking to apply their skills in a challenging and critical industry, balancing on-site collaboration with remote design work. You will work closely with site operations and a remote engineering support team.
Key Responsibilities
Design and engineer electrical systems for mining equipment, power distribution, and control applications.
Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and control panel layouts.
Perform electrical load calculations, fault current analysis, and equipment specification.
Ensure all designs comply with mining safety regulations, industry standards, and environmental requirements.
Liaise with project managers, site personnel, and vendors to ensure successful project execution.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting for electrical systems during installation and operation.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design, preferably within the mining or heavy industrial sector.
Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical or similar.
Strong understanding of high-voltage and medium-voltage systems, VFDs, and motor control.
Knowledge of mining-specific electrical safety standards and practices is advantageous.
Ability to work effectively in a hybrid model, requiring both remote work and periodic site visits.
