Department: Engineering

Reports To: Designated Engineering Mentor

Position Summary

Impact Electronic Solutions is seeking an Electronic Engineering Intern to join our Engineering team and gain hands‑on experience in an electronics manufacturing environment.

This internship is designed for students pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree and/or recent graduates in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, or a related field who are interested in applying classroom knowledge to real‑world manufacturing, testing, and engineering challenges.

Under the guidance of experienced engineering professionals, the Electronic Engineering Intern will assist with electronic testing, troubleshooting, documentation, drawing and schematic review, and manufacturing support. The intern will gain exposure to electronic assemblies, wire harness and cable assemblies, electromechanical assemblies, and electronics manufacturing process. The intern will have the opportunity to work alongside Engineering, Production, Test, and Quality teams while developing practical technical and problem‑solving skills and contributing to continuous improvement, root‑cause problem solving, product quality and manufacturing efficiency.

Essential Duties & Learning Opportunities

The Electronic Engineering Intern may assist with:

Reviewing and interpreting electronic schematics, drawings, specifications, and related technical documentation.

Supporting engineers and technicians with electronic testing and troubleshooting activities, including electronic, wire harness/cable, and electromechanical assemblies.

Learning the proper use and operation of electronic test equipment and test fixtures.

Assisting with the review and development of test instructions, procedures, and other technical documentation.

Supporting troubleshooting of test, fixture, component, and electronic assembly issues, including identifying potential root causes and supporting corrective actions.

Collecting, documenting, and analyzing test results and engineering data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

Assisting with the identification and documentation of quality or manufacturing issues.

Learning and applying established test standards, engineering procedures, and customer requirements.

Supporting engineering projects related to process improvement, testing, manufacturing efficiency, or product quality, including continuous improvement and root cause problem solving activities.

Gaining exposure to computer‑aided design (CAD) tools and other engineering software applications.

Collaborating with Engineering, Production, Quality, Test, and other departments to gain an understanding of the complete electronics manufacturing process, including wire harness/cable assembly and electromechanical assembly operations.

Participating in engineering meetings, project reviews, and problem‑solving activities as appropriate.

Completing assigned engineering projects under the direction and mentorship of qualified engineering personnel.

Performing other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

Currently pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.

Basic understanding of electrical and electronic principles through completed coursework.

Ability to read or develop proficiency in reading electronic schematics and technical drawings.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Basic computer skills and the ability to learn engineering and manufacturing software.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Ability to distinguish colors as required when working with electronic components, wiring, and related materials.

Preferred:

Coursework in electronic circuits, digital electronics, analog electronics, embedded systems, PCB design, or related subjects.

Familiarity with electronic test equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, or similar equipment.

Exposure to CAD, schematic capture, or PCB design software.

Previous electronics laboratory, academic project, robotics, maker‑space, electronics manufacturing, wire harness/cable assembly, or electromechanical experience.

Basic soldering experience is preferred but not required.

Internship Experience

During the internship, the student will have the opportunity to develop practical experience in:

Electronic testing and troubleshooting

Reading schematics and engineering drawings

Test equipment and fixture operation

Electronics manufacturing processes

Wire harness and cable assemblies

Electronic and electromechanical assemblies

Technical documentation and procedure development

Engineering problem solving and root‑cause analysis

Continuous improvement and manufacturing efficiency

Quality and continuous improvement

Cross‑functional collaboration in a manufacturing environment

The goal of the internship is to provide meaningful, hands‑on engineering experience while allowing the intern to contribute to active projects and develop skills applicable to a future career in electronics engineering.
