Elementary Counselor Position
Reports To: Building Principal
Salary: RISO Counselor Pay Scale Contract Period: 193 Days/10 Months
Qualifications:
Master's degree in school counseling or a related field
Texas counselor certification through the State Board for Educator Certification
Valid teaching certificate
Completion of at least two years of successful teaching experience
Demonstrated competency in, and ability to learn and use a variety of technological applications
Demonstrated proficiency in gathering, analyzing, utilizing, and reporting data
Ability to communicate effectively in all forms, and interpret policy, procedures, and data with stakeholders
Ability to manage a variety of professional tasks independently
Duties:
Develop a comprehensive school guidance program that aligns with campus and district goals and state standards
Maintain evidence of planning and all aspects of the guidance program plan
Provide guidance lessons that align with district and state requirements as well as identified needs
Collaborate with parents, teachers and other professional staff to assist students in reaching their social/emotional and academic potential
Respond effectively to crisis situations
Assist students in learning and demonstrating appropriate school behavior, and in developing self-understanding and social skills through individual and group guidance and counseling activities
Work with students and their parents to develop educational, college, and career plans, including lessons, activities, and/or events
Provide guidance and transition information to parents and students as students move from one grade to the next, particularly from 6th to 7th grades
Coordinate the 504 and referral process for students who may need individualized services
Provide individual and group counseling for students and consult with their parents concerning challenges that interfere with student learning
Be aware of community resources, referrals and other assistance available to students and families, and refer as appropriate
Consult with parents, teachers, and other staff members to support student learning
Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds
Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible
Attend and participate in required counseling department meetings and district professional development opportunities
Adhere to rules, regulations and policies of RISO
Perform other functions that may be assigned by campus and district administration
Communicate effectively with parents and community stakeholders, responding to concerns in a timely manner
