Job description
Title: Leave Replacement - School Nurse
nPay scale: Based on NBTA Contract
nStart Date: ASAP
nDescription: The school nurse provides immediate general first aid to the students, staff, and visitors at the school. They review immunization and physical exam records and arrange school physicals for students as required by school policy for those who do not choose to be examined by a private physician. They provide mandatory screenings as required by law and dispense medication to students as indicated by the doctor's prescription. The school nurse keeps the Building Principal(s) and the Director of Special Education Services apprised of building and student health and wellness issues. They communicate with parents and teachers concerning student health. They provide organization and coordination in the delivery of healthcare services within the district, in collaboration with healthcare providers, administrators, teachers, parents and other staff. They are required to maintain acceptable health standards and the school health records. Additionally, the emergency treatment of student and employee health problems is also a requirement.
nExpectations:
nnnResponsible for accurate attendance recording
n
nnAdministers first aid and emergency treatment to students, employees, and visitors utilizing the protocols established by the State and District, when necessary
n
nnPerforms examinations and screening procedures, such as visual, auditory, scoliosis, as required by State Law
n
nnPrepares and maintains health records; medical and dental
n
nnPrepares Critical Care Plans for students as needed
n
nnDispenses medication as needed
n
nnReviews and keeps records in accordance with state and local protocols
n
nnProvides care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness
n
nnObserves the student population to identify any new health trends/needs that arise
n
nnWorks collaboratively with teacher aides, teachers, and school personnel with respect to medical supervision in place for students
n
nnPrepares students’ medications for class trips or when going off campus
n
nnMaintains health records for students visiting for various programs (Alpha, band, orchestra etc.)
n
nnMaintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students
n
nnAdvises administration on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases and immunizations
n
nnNotifies parents/guardian of illness or injury, as needed
n
nnArranges transportation of sick or injured student, employee, or visitor to hospital, as needed
n
nnOrders and maintains inventory of medical supplies
n
nnAttends in-service training programs, faculty meetings, district committees, staff meetings, conference days and professional development
n
nnAttends faculty feelings as needed
n
nnAttends 90-minute Professional Development as required
n
nnOther related duties as assigned by administration
n
n nRequirements:
nnnPossession of license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse
n
nnExcellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, community members, and staff members
n
