n nAbout the Role
nThe Emergency Response Support Professional is a key member of a mobile crisis response team, providing immediate, compassionate, and person-centered support to individuals and families experiencing substance use, mental health, or co-occurring crises.
nWorking alongside licensed clinicians and peer professionals, this role focuses on de-escalation, emotional support, resource connection, and advocacy. This position plays a vital role in helping individuals navigate crisis situations while promoting recovery, safety, and self-determination.
nWhat You’ll Do
nnnRespond to emergency and pre-emergency calls as part of a mobile crisis response team
n
nnProvide on-site support during crises, including overdoses, relapses, and mental health emergencies
n
nnDeliver calm, compassionate, and non-judgmental support to individuals and families
n
nnOffer emotional support, encouragement, and hope grounded in recovery principles
n
nnAssist individuals and families in understanding substance use, mental health challenges, and recovery pathways
n
nnSupport families and loved ones in navigating crisis situations and accessing help
n
nnConnect individuals to community resources, including treatment programs, support groups, housing, and healthcare services
n
nnCollaborate with the Orange County Crisis Call Center and Mobile Response Team for additional support when needed
n
nnProvide education on harm reduction strategies and safety planning
n
nnAdvocate for individuals’ rights, preferences, and access to services
n
nnMaintain up-to-date knowledge of community resources and referral options
n
nnComplete accurate and timely documentation following each response
n
nnParticipate in trainings, team meetings, and continuing education opportunities
n
nnResponsible for conducting a non-medical assessment, evaluation of crisis situation, and providing coordination on next steps for follow-up care.
n
n nRequirements
nThe ideal candidate will have:
nnnA licensed professional in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, or a related field
n
nnStrong communication, interpersonal, and de-escalation skills
n
nnAbility to work independently and manage time effectively
n
nnComfort working in community-based settings, including homes and alongside first responders
n
nnValid, unrestricted driver’s license
n
nnBasic computer skills with the ability to complete documentation accurately and on time
n
nnUnderstanding of and openness to multiple pathways to recovery
n
n nIt would be a plus if you also have:
nnnWillingness to obtain New York Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (NYCPS) or Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CPRA) certification within the first year
n
nnKnowledge of or willingness to learn about recovery principles, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention
n
nnBilingual in English and Spanish
n
nnLived or professional experience with mental health, substance use, or justice system involvement
n
nnStrong ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively in crisis situations
n
nnDemonstrated empathy, active listening skills, and a non-judgmental approach
n
nnBelief in person-centered care and multiple pathways to recovery
n
n nSuccess in this role will be demonstrated through:
nnnEffective, compassionate responses to crisis situations
n
nnStrong engagement and rapport with individuals and families in distress
n
nnTimely and accurate completion of documentation and reports
n
nnSuccessful connection of individuals to appropriate services and resources
n
nnPositive collaboration with team members and community partners
n
nnDemonstrated growth in crisis response skills and recovery-oriented practices
