Position Title: Engineer I

Position Location: Remote - work virtually from anywhere in the United States

JOB SUMMARY

The Engineer I will have the opportunity to work with senior design staff to advance their design skills for commercial building design and construction. They will learn, through hands-on application, how to design a wide variety of projects. This person will work as part of the Engineering Team and interact closely with the Project Management Team to produce construction documents, assist in project specifications and assist in the construction administration process.

Engineers in this role may choose to pursue a project management–focused career track, gain exposure across all three MEP disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing/Fire Protection), or progress toward deeper specialization. Specialization paths may include Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing/Fire Protection design, as well as advanced focus areas such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Power Systems Studies, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), or other mission-critical engineering specialties, based on individual interests, strengths, and business needs.

The Engineer I will rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.  This person will work under immediate supervision.

The Engineer I will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

ASSIST IN PRODUCTION OF ENGINEERING DOCUMENTS (50%)

Perform basic engineering work and design tasks under a senior engineer’s supervision

Perform standard computations and analysis

Perform load calculations, equipment selection and pressure drop calculations

Utilize AutoCAD and Revit software to prepare drawings and visual aids

Assist in the review and creation of drawings details, schedules, sequence of operations and drawing content as directed

ASSIST IN PRE-CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES (15%)

Survey existing building conditions and prepare technical reports of findings

Collect data and other information for construction documents

Prepare project design and construction documents

Basic review and editing of project specifications

Basic review of long lead equipment and impact on design conditions

ASSIST IN CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES (15%)

Work as part of the engineering team and interact closely with the project management team

Assistwith construction administration tracking (submittals, RFIs, etc.)

Review shop drawings and submittals

Review and respond to RFIs

Assistwith punch lists and project closeout documents

REPORTING (10%)

Prepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders

Provide status updates on work products

TECHNOLOGY, DIGITAL TOOLS & AI-ENABLED EFFICIENCY (10%)

Leverage AI-enabled and digital tools to enhance efficiency, reduce manual effort, and support consistent, high-quality work output.

Identifyopportunities to improve processes anddemonstratea continuous learning mindset, seeking outnew technologies, skills, and methods that elevate individual and team performance.

Adapt toemergingtechnologies and evolving digital workflows, actively supporting the integration and adoption of innovative tools across the organization.

Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget

Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned

Project Management Track would also include(percentages above would shift):

Project Coordination and Support

Assist Project Managers withday-to-daycoordination of routine project tasks and deliverables.

Track action items, schedules, and milestones under guidance to supporttimelyproject execution.

Maintain organized project files and documentation to ensure accuracy and accessibility.

Support coordination between internal teams and external stakeholders by relaying information and following up on routine requests.

Organize andassistin QAQC and compilation of work products (including subconsultants) for external distribution

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (BEGINNER LEVEL FOR ALL THE FOLLOWING UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED)

Knowledge of engineering principles

Knowledge of code and specifications for design and engineering

Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management

Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail

Ability toleverageAI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows,optimizeoperational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation.

Ability to work successfully in a remote environmentthrougheffective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction free workspace

Ability to follow company and site safety requirements

Ability to analyze and prepare documents,reportsand correspondence

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information)

Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with supervision

Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines

Organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

In support of your success and long-term growth at DLB, the Design Team hosts a week-long, in-person onboarding and training program for new hires. This immersive experience, held at DLB’s Training & Collaboration space at Bell Works in Holmdel, New Jersey, is designed to help you build meaningful connections, gain hands-on exposure to our tools and standards, and develop a strong understanding of how your work contributes to our projects and teams. The program provides dedicated time to learn, collaborate, and confidently step into your role alongside fellow Design Team members.

Attendance and active participation in this training are required as part of your onboarding with the Design Team. All reasonable travel expenses associated with attending this training will be covered by DLB.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Up to 10%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states.

Effective May 7, 2025, and in accordance with U.S. federal regulations for domestic air travel, a valid REAL ID (or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport) is required for travel associated with this position.

Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on the destination and nature of the business need.

Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meeting for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from ABET accredited institution, with a sound knowledge of engineering fundamentals
