Position Overview

Environmental Test Engineers validate our satellites’ ability to withstand the extreme conditions of launch and space operations. You will plan, coordinate, and execute environmental test campaigns, working closely with systems, mechanical, and electrical engineering teams to ensure mission readiness.

Lead roles include additional responsibilities such as test planning oversight, vendor coordination, anomaly resolution leadership, and acting as the senior decision‑maker during assigned shifts.

Key Responsibilities (All Roles)

Perform Thermal Vacuum (TVAC) , vibration , and shock testing on components, subsystems, and fully assembled satellites.

Coordinate logistics and scheduling with internal engineering teams and external test facilities.

Support and oversee environmental test vendors during off‑site campaigns.

Install and verify test instrumentation (thermocouples, accelerometers, strain gauges, force sensors).

Configure and operate data acquisition (DAQ) systems.

Analyze test data, interpret results, and provide actionable feedback to design and manufacturing teams.

Maintain internal environmental test infrastructure and ensure compliance with safety protocols.

Lead root cause analysis and drive resolution of test anomalies.

Contribute to continuous improvement of test processes, procedures, and documentation.

Serve as a subject‑matter expert on environmental test equipment and methodologies.

Additional Responsibilities for Lead Roles

Act as the senior engineer on shift, making real‑time technical decisions.

Lead test planning, readiness reviews, and coordination with cross‑functional teams.

Mentor junior engineers and technicians.

Own anomaly investigations and corrective action plans.

Represent the environmental test function in program‑level discussions.

Qualifications

Education (All Roles)

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.

Experience Requirements

Test Engineer roles: 2–3 years of hands‑on environmental testing experience (aerospace, defense, or high‑reliability systems).

Lead Test Engineer roles: 4–5+ years of environmental testing experience with demonstrated leadership or senior‑level ownership.

Technical Requirements (All Roles)

Working knowledge of environmental test standards (NASA GEVS, MIL‑STD‑810).

Proficiency with TVAC chambers, vibration tables (sine/random), and shock systems.

Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical specifications.

Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills.

Hands‑on experience with instrumentation and DAQ systems.

Familiarity with MATLAB, Python (NumPy/SciPy), LabVIEW, Dewesoft, or m+p Analyzer.

Preferred Qualifications

Direct experience testing satellites or spacecraft.

Knowledge of aerospace materials and behavior in vacuum, thermal, and vibrational environments.

Experience leading root cause analysis (especially for Lead roles).

Soft Skills

Proactive ownership from planning through execution.

Ability to prioritize effectively in a fast‑paced R&D/manufacturing environment.

Strong interpersonal skills for cross‑functional collaboration.

Clear written and verbal communication.

Methodical, analytical approach to troubleshooting.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a lab environment.

Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.

Manual dexterity for installing sensitive instrumentation.

Ability to work around moderate noise levels.

Occasional travel to external test facilities.
