Full Pay Range: $65,000 - $87,500 annually

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

About the Position

Are you ready to help internal and external partners improve the health of the community within Maricopa County? If you find yourself inspired to put your analytical skills to work in the public health sector, consider applying for the Epidemiologist role!

As an Epidemiologist in the Office of Communicable Disease Data, Surveillance, and Outbreak Response, you will be responsible for the analysis, interpretation, and communication of vaccine-preventable disease data. You will compile and analyze data, monitor disease and immunization trends, and produce reports and visualizations to support data-driven strategies that inform public health action.

Please note that this is a contract position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2027.

We Require

Master's degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a closely related public health field

An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value

Skilled in analysis software such as R or SAS

Job Contributions

Conduct epidemiologic analyses of vaccine-preventable disease data to monitor disease trends and identify populations or areas of increased risk

Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, maps, and other data products to communicate findings and support data-driven public health actions

Analyze vaccination coverage and school immunization data to identify trends, disparities, and potential gaps in vaccination

Collaborate with epidemiologists, Community Wellness and Health staff, and other internal and external partners to provide accurate and timely epidemiologic information

Support cooperative agreement activities, performance measures, and grant deliverables through data analysis, reporting, and evaluation activities

Working Conditions

Within one month of hire, all employees will be required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test

Exerting up to 10 lbs. occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time

Must be able to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available as directed in the event of a public health emergency
