Job description
Heavy-Duty Construction Equipment OperatorThis is skilled work in the operation of various types of heavy-duty construction equipment. The work involves operating gasoline, steam or diesel-powered machinery used in material handling, bridge building, earth moving, and excavating, grading and road maintenance. Originality and independence of action are frequently based on experience and specialized knowledge of the technical processes. Incumbent general receives project assignments from a superior who indicates specific results desired.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesOperates steam, gasoline or diesel-powered machinery used in material handling, bridge building, earth moving, excavating, grading and road construction or maintenance.Operates motor grader to scrape dirt and gravel roads, clear roadside ditches, level and fill road shoulders and for other road maintenance.Operates tractors, bulldozers, power shovel, and similar equipment to level and grade building sites, excavate building foundations and perform related digging and earth moving operations.Checks mechanical conditions and makes minor operating repairs on machinery and equipment.Operates a power crane in dredging, excavating or moving earth, rock, sand, making cuts and fills to grade; moves lumber, piling, girders and similar objects.Works as finisher cat operator or maintenance construction and performs the more difficult finishing and grading operations.Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsA high school diploma or GED, and three (3) years' experience driving bull dozers, motor graders, etc.orAny combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and three (3) years of related experienceandPossession of a valid Mississippi commercial driver's license.Pre-Employment Drug/Alcohol Testing RequiredThis is a non-exempt position.This is an At-Will employment positionIt is the policy of Hinds County to ensure equal employment opportunity without discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, marital status, citizenship, national origin, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law.
