Job description
Job TitleThis position performs skilled manual work in the operation of several types of automotive vehicles and mobile motorized equipment.Working Conditions: Responsible for the satisfactory and safe operation of vehicles and equipment under all types of weather conditions on paved and dirt roads. Majority of tasks are performed outdoors and very frequently in extreme weather conditions. Subjected to insects, noxious fumes and constant noise. Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical that screens for acceptable eyesight and hearing (with or without correction), the ability to sit for extended periods, and manual dexterity needed to operate job related machinery. These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.Essential FunctionsOperates or drives a dump truck, participates in the loading and unloading of materialsChecks condition of truck or equipment before operating; performs light maintenance on vehicle such as checking and adding oil, fuel, water and air; changes tires; cleans and washes vehicles or equipmentPerforms street repair, bridge maintenance, installs culverts, removal of trees off right of ways, repairing driveways and the maintenance of ditchesPerforms skilled manual work in conjunction with job assignments; loading and unloading materials, operates chain saws, cement saws and various types of hand toolsVisually identifies hazards to safe operation of problem areas and reports or corrects themWork is performed independently in accordance with definite instructions from a supervisor who reviews work through observation for compliance with work schedules and instructionsRequired to work during a local declared state of emergencyMinimum QualificationsMinimum Experience: High School education or G.E.D. preferred and one year's experience in vehicle and equipment operation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of a valid Florida CDL Class B Driver's License required within ninety (90) days from hire date.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesConsiderable knowledge of the practices applied to the safe and skillful operation and care of vehicles and equipmentAbility to learn, understand and abide by all traffic laws and county regulations pertaining to the safe operation of vehicles and equipmentAbility to understand and carry out simple oral and written directionsAbility to communicate with fellow employees and the general publicAbility to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed and considering large organization or team goals rather than individual concernsWe offer a complete benefits package to full-time employees including health care, dental, vision, retirement, deferred compensation plans, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, long-term disability, holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
