What You'll Do
nPrincipal's Global Equity team is searching for an experienced U.S. small- and mid-cap Financials Equity Analyst to join our research team! This candidate will work with a diverse team of portfolio managers and dedicated sector analysts to deliver proprietary research and investment recommendations.
nnnGenerate alpha through investment recommendations based upon in-depth, detailed proprietary analysis of industrial companies, with a specific focus on small- and mid-cap (market capitalization under $20 billion) financial sector companies in the U.S.

nnInteract frequently with company management, industry experts, and other stakeholders to gather differentiated and high-conviction qualitative and quantitative insights
n
nnPartner closely with financial sector team lead, analysts, and portfolio managers to drive outperformance through stock selection while working within the framework of our research process and portfolio constraints
n
nnBuild and maintain detailed financial models to forecast company performance and assess security valuation, incorporating macroeconomic and industry-specific factors
n
nnGenerate timely, actionable investment ideas and communicate insights through written reports, models, presentations, and investment committee discussions
n
nnMaintain research coverage of existing investments within financials for multiple portfolios
n
n nWho You Are
nnn5+ years equity investment experience in financials, preferably with at least 2 years on the buyside
n
nnU.S. small- and mid-cap financials sector research and investment experience
n
nnExperience across multiple financial sub-sectors, such as banks, P&C and/or life insurance, asset/alternative managers, and diversified financials.
n
nnProven track record of generating consistent alpha through actively covered investment recommendations
n
nnDemonstrated ability to leverage AI-enabled research tools (including agentic AI and coworking tools) to enhance idea generation, due diligence, analysis, and investment decision-making.
n
nnAbility to distill and communicate industry data and trends into actionable investment insights
n
n nSkills That Will Help You Stand Out
nnnMBA or CFA designation highly preferred
n
nnPossess best-in-class analytical skills, including extensive knowledge of the financials sector, fundamental company analysis, and financial modeling
n
nnHighly intellectually curious, with a clear passion for investing and public markets

nnEntrepreneurial mindset; self-starter with a desire to build out an individual franchise within Financials-dedicated team

nnExceptional written and verbal communication skills

n nSalary Range Information
nSalary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

nSalary Details
nWe are willing to hire at various levels based on years of relevant experience. The base salary range of $141,000 - $243,000 reflects market-specific compensation for this position across multiple job levels. Candidates will be evaluated to determine the appropriate job level based on their skills and experience. In addition to the base pay, you are also eligible for an annual bonus based off performance.
nBase pay estimated ranges for the various Analyst levels are:

nn8+ years experience: $179,000 - $243,000
n
n nThe hiring team will decide based upon your experience, what level of Analyst you would be hired into.
nTime Off Program
nFlexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
