Job description
Custodian PositionUnder the supervision of the Principal, in collaboration with the Custodial Supervisor or Head Custodian, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining safe and clean school buildings and facilities for students, staff, and visitors.Essential FunctionsPerform routine semi-skilled custodial work in the care and cleaning of school buildingsEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with site staff, parents and visitors, officials and employeesOrganize daily activities and maintain scheduled dutiesSweep or dust mop floors daily in assigned areaVacuum carpets daily and/or shampoo carpets as needed to maintain in good conditionScrub and clean toilets including mirrors, wash basins, urinals, commodes, sinks, etc., fill tissue, towel, and soap dispensersDust furniture, walls, window sills, baseboards, chalk trays, and other woodworksWash walls, woodwork, blinds, etc.Clean drinking fountainsClean and polish brass or other metal fixturesClean any area as required for accidents and illnesses, including during lunch periodsMove furniture as requiredSpray, buff, scrub, strip, and refinish all types of floorsSecure buildingsRemove trash from building and place in dumpsterShovel snow, cut grass, trim shrubbery, etc.Maintain availability 24 hours a day if necessary due to emergency or snow removal operationsMaintain and clean equipment and storage roomsMaintain building in a safe, clean condition and report needed repairs or any emergency/safety issue to Building Principal and Maintenance StaffPerform other duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipmentAbility to understand and follow oral and written directionsAbility to get along well with othersThorough in performance of responsibilitiesEducation and ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED
