About the Role

JCGC is seeking a thoughtful, hands‑on individual to lead an organization that plays an essential role in Cincinnati’s Jewish community. The Executive Director has overall responsibility and accountability for the management, execution, and implementation of all aspects of the organization. The Executive Director oversees operations, staff, facilities, cemetery services, financial administration, and community and family relations, while serving as its primary public representative. Working in partnership with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director translates the organization’s mission, policies, and strategic priorities into effective day‑to‑day operations and ensures their successful execution.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Board of Trustees and its Executive Committee, the Executive Director will:

Provide strategic and operational leadership for the organization.

Participate in evening Board, committee, and agency meetings.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Board.

Operations & Facilities

Oversee and manage JCGC’s cemeteries and burial operations with the highest level of care, dignity, professionalism and sensitivity to families.

Plan, oversee, and manage the annual operating budget and financial resources.

Establish, manage, and direct cemetery policies, procedures, and services in coordination with the Board while interacting with rabbis and clergy, funeral directors, and bereaved families.

Supervise cemetery development and maintenance in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and industry best practices.

Supervise the planning, preparation, and implementation of construction, capital, and major projects with suppliers, architects, and contractors.

May be on call for burial arrangements.

Staff Management & Human Resources

Supervise the Office team, the Foreman, and field staff.

Develop and enforce personnel policies and procedures.

Community Relations

Manage community relations, public relations, and relationships with congregations and partner agencies.

Plan and oversee organizational events, ceremonies, and community engagement activities.

Participate in community events, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

Five or more years of experience in a nonprofit, community‑based organization, business management, or similar environment.

Successful fundraising experience, including donor cultivation, major gifts, annual giving, and grant development is preferred but not required.

The successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Jewish values, traditions, and communal life, consistent with JCGC’s mission.

Demonstrated experience in staff management, budgeting, financial management, and operational oversight.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, and donor database or CRM systems.

Strong leadership and project management skills with the ability to work independently while managing a broad range of responsibilities.
