Job description

The Lexington Pride Center

The Lexington Pride Center, founded in 1977, is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to celebrate and empower the intersectional lives of LGBTQIA+ Kentuckians. The Lexington Pride Center supports the community by providing a safe, inclusive space, access to resources and referrals, support programs, and social and educational events. Our services and resources include a public computer lab, a Pride Library, and the People’s Market, a food pantry serving 60+ households every week. With the Lexington Pride Festival, we produce a public event that provides celebration, connection, empowerment, and education, for LGBTQIA+ people, their families and allies, and the broader community.

Executive Director

The Lexington Pride Center (LPC) is seeking an Executive Director (ED) to provide comprehensive leadership for the organization, overseeing all operations while serving as the organization's public advocate. This role combines strategic vision with practical management to advance the LPC’s mission, creating greater awareness of issues impacting the LGBTQIA+ community, and providing support services in central Kentucky. The ED partners with the Board to ensure organizational sustainability, promotes diversity and inclusion initiatives, and secures necessary funding through effective budget management and fundraising strategies.

An ideal candidate will combine passion for the LGBTQIA+ community with proven nonprofit management experience, strong financial acumen, and a collaborative leadership style that embraces diversity and fosters community connection.

Key Responsibilities

Champion the LPC's mission through effective leadership and community advocacy

Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the organization's history, culture, programs, structure, stakeholders, and finances

Build strong partnerships with Board leadership to advance fundraising, strategic planning, and governance

Oversee financial operations including budgeting, financial controls, and long-term funding strategies that ensure sustainability

Evaluate programs for effectiveness, identify expansion opportunities, and ensure services complement rather than duplicate community resources, while maintaining fiscal accountability

Lead fundraising efforts by enhancing existing strategies and developing new revenue streams through grants, planned giving, and income-generating programs

Serve as a visible LGBTQ+ advocate, positioning the LPC as a catalyst for policy advancement at local, state, and national levels

Expand the organization's reach by developing programming that attracts diverse, multigenerational audiences

Advance equity, inclusion, and belonging through targeted outreach to underrepresented communities within the LGBTQ+ spectrum

Direct all operational aspects of the organization to fulfill its mission and strategic objectives

Experience, Skills, and Qualities

Bachelor’s degree

At least 3 years of experience in a leadership role in the nonprofit sector

Experience securing funding, including grants, major gifts, and annual campaigns in amounts exceeding $50,000 total annually

Extensive and successful grant writing experience

A deep knowledge of and commitment to issues impacting the LGBTQIA+ community in Kentucky and nationally

Experience managing staff and coordinating volunteers

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an eye for storytelling and opportunities to advance the LPC’s mission in the public sphere

Willingness to think strategically, take initiative, and work collaboratively

Compensation and Benefits

$58,000-$70,000 annual salary, based on experience

Full-time, exempt

30 days of paid time off annually

Healthcare, Dental, and Vision benefits

Hours, Location, and Travel

Primarily in-office at the Lexington Pride Center from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Monday and Friday are remote or in-office optional. Work may be conducted in other locations as required by programming, special events, networking, and community engagement. Some regional, statewide, and national travel is required.

Open until filled.
