Job description

Extrusion Equipment OperatorSets up, runs, and monitors 1 ¼" extrusion equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable by performing the following job responsibilities.Significant Responsibilities:Performs specific job responsibilities: Reads the set-up sheet and utilizes the file name to determine the product to be manufactured, machine adjustments, and material requirements.Sets up, runs, and continuously monitors the 1 ¼" extrusion line for all products.Observes, measures, and inspects products at various stages of the production process to ensure the product is being produced per proper set-up sheet specifications.Accurately completes all documentation specific to this job function.Cleans equipment to prevent contamination as required.Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production. Assists in solving problems or notifies supervisor if required. Completes non-conformity paperwork for all defects and problems in products.Conducts all activities in accordance with safety procedures and guidelines.Promotes OCC's service excellence and quality. Provides excellent service to customers; builds strong relationships and team cohesiveness; focuses on quality and positive solutions; communicates respectfully; demonstrates compassion and understanding in response to customer requests/needs.Champions OCC's mission, vision, and values (as detailed in our 15 Essential Points of Success); complies with policies and procedures, ethical standards, and Code of Conduct.Minimum Qualifications Required:Education & Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months of related experience and/or training preferred.Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge: Mechanical aptitude with the ability to run a machine in a production environment. Demonstrated ability to use tools and measuring devices properly. Ability to read and follow basic instructions. Ability to understand and implement quality procedures. Math and handwriting skills required and the ability to correctly complete all documentation. Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Pays close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems.Working Conditions: While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. This job requires a sighted individual (i.e., vision corrected to 20/20) for significant reading and computer usage. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision. This work also requires an individual with normal hearing (i.e., hearing corrected to normal ranges). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Individual compensation is determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, internal equity, and business needs. New hires are typically hired below the midpoint of the range. Eligible positions may receive applicable shift differentials, skill premiums, or other forms of additional compensation.The regular schedule for this position is 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday with some schedule flexibility required; overtime is also available. 44 hours/week
