Job description

Description

The University of Chicago's Department of Neurological Surgery is rapidly growing and expanding its focus on brain tumor research and treatment. We invite applications for full-time faculty members at any rank to oversee a research program in any area of basic and/or translational research in neuro-oncology. Appointees will be based on the University of Chicago's Hyde Park campus. Appointees will teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate level and may participate in clinical care if appropriate.

Academic rank, track (BSD tenure-track or School of Medicine track), and compensation are dependent upon qualifications. These positions are benefits-eligible. The University of Chicago offers a wide range of benefits programs and resources for eligible employees, including health, retirement, and paid time off. Information about the benefit offerings can be found in the Benefits Guidebook.

The Department of Neurological Surgery is engaged in cutting-edge neurosurgical research and development, focusing on pioneering new treatments for a range of neurological conditions. This includes ongoing investigations into treatments for brain tumors, epilepsy, CNS congenital anomalies, and neurovascular disease.

While the primary faculty appointment will be in the Department of Neurological Surgery, appointees may have an opportunity for secondary appointments in other departments of the Biological Sciences Division (BSD) dependent upon interests and qualifications. There will be multiple opportunities for appointees to collaborate with faculty in the following programs: the Ben May Department for Cancer Research, the Ludwig Center of Chicago, the Department of Medicine's Section of Hematology/Oncology, and The University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center and its Abbvie Foundation Cancer Pavilion (opening in 2027), and the University of Chicago Neuroscience Institute.

The University of Chicago is a vibrant center of scientific discovery and innovation. The Biological Sciences Division, other academic units of the University, and the University of Chicago Medical Center are all contained within one compact campus in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. Appointees will have access to state-of-the-art core facilities, outstanding colleagues, and graduate students affiliated with numerous degree-granting programs within and outside the Biological Sciences. Faculty in the BSD collaborate widely across their respective Departments, with other Divisions, Schools, and Institutes at the University of Chicago, and with researchers at the Argonne National Laboratory and the Marine Biological Laboratory.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) hold a PhD or MD/PhD in Neuroscience, Cancer Biology, Neurobiology, Bioengineering, Immunology, Cell Biology, Anatomy or a related field, and 2) have at least five years' experience overseeing a research laboratory in an academic or industry setting.

We especially welcome established principal investigators with funded brain tumor research programs.

To be considered, those interested must apply through The University of Chicago, Academic Recruitment job board, which uses Interfolio to accept applications: Applicants must upload: CV with bibliography, cover letter, research statement, teaching statement, up to five selected publications, and contact information for three references. Review of complete applications ends when positions are filled.
