About the Family
A busy private family in Lagrangeville, NY is seeking an exceptional, highly organized Family Assistant / Household Manager to provide comprehensive personal, household, and family support.
This is primarily a Family Assistant/Personal Assistant position rather than a traditional nanny role . The children are generally in school during working hours, so the majority of the day will be focused on managing the household, family logistics, errands, organization, and administrative responsibilities. However, the family is looking for someone who genuinely enjoys children and is comfortable stepping into a childcare role when needed, such as when a child is home sick, school is unexpectedly closed, or the family needs occasional backup care.
The ideal candidate is someone who is proactive, resourceful, organized, and several steps ahead . This person should be able to look around the household, recognize what needs attention, and take ownership without needing to be given a daily task list.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Family Assistant, Personal Assistant, Household Manager, or nanny who has naturally transitioned toward household management and enjoys the organizational, logistical, and administrative side of private service.
Responsibilities
The Family Assistant / Household Manager will provide a combination of personal, household, and family support, including:
Managing family calendars, appointments, reminders, reservations, and schedules
Coordinating family logistics and keeping everyone organized and on track
Running errands, handling returns and exchanges, shipping packages, pickups, and household purchases
Researching vendors, products, services, activities, travel, and other family needs
Coordinating household vendors, maintenance, repairs, deliveries, and service appointments
Tracking household projects and following through from start to completion
Keeping household supplies organized, monitored, and stocked
Assisting with family travel planning, packing, preparation, and post-travel organization
Managing paperwork, forms, correspondence, and miscellaneous administrative tasks
Organizing closets, children's belongings, seasonal items, storage areas, donations, and other household spaces
Creating and maintaining efficient household organizational systems
Communicating and coordinating with household staff, caregivers, vendors, and service providers
Anticipating upcoming family and household needs and taking action proactively
Providing occasional backup childcare when children are unexpectedly home during the workday
Pitching in with reasonable household tasks as needed
Taking ownership of projects and responsibilities without requiring constant direction
Hands-On, Team-Oriented Mentality
The family employs household help, so this is not a traditional housekeeping position . However, they are specifically looking for someone with a genuine "How can I help?" mentality .
The right person will not hesitate to tidy a room, unload the dishwasher, handle occasional laundry, change bedding, clean up after a project, organize a messy space, or pitch in when something needs attention.
Everyone in the household has their primary responsibilities, but the family believes in working as a team and helping one another when circumstances require it. They are looking for someone who is comfortable moving between high-level administrative tasks and practical, hands-on support without thinking, "That's not my job."
Ideal Candidate
The strongest candidate will be:
Exceptionally organized with excellent executive-function and time-management skills
Proactive and naturally able to anticipate needs
A strong planner who thinks several steps ahead
Resourceful and confident researching and solving problems independently
Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Detail-oriented with excellent follow-through
Comfortable taking ownership of a task from beginning to end
Flexible and able to quickly shift priorities when family needs change
Warm, capable, and comfortable with school-aged children
Comfortable providing occasional backup childcare
Tech-savvy and comfortable with calendars, online research, ordering, scheduling, and household management systems
Discreet and respectful of family privacy
Collaborative and comfortable working alongside other household staff
Able to take direction while also working independently
Positive, energetic, and solutions-oriented
Willing to perform both administrative work and practical, hands-on tasks
Looking for a long-term position and interested in becoming an integral part of the family's household team
Household Culture
The family places a strong emphasis on teamwork, kindness, communication, flexibility, and a family mentality . The Family Assistant will work alongside other household staff, caregivers, vendors, and service providers and should be comfortable collaborating with a variety of people.
The family values employees who are reliable, discreet, communicative, proactive, flexible, and willing to pitch in . They are looking for someone who takes pride in keeping things organized, enjoys being helpful, and understands that the best household professionals are often the people who notice what needs to happen before they are asked.
Long-Term Opportunity
The family is specifically hoping to find someone who wants to grow with them over the long term .
As the Family Assistant becomes familiar with the family's routines, preferences, and needs, the position can evolve into a highly trusted and autonomous role. The goal is for this individual to become the family's go-to person for managing personal and household logistics, keeping projects moving, anticipating needs, and helping the home run seamlessly .
The ideal candidate will combine the organization, initiative, and problem-solving skills of an excellent Personal Assistant with the warmth, flexibility, hands-on mentality, and team spirit of an experienced family professional .
