Each member of the Geriatrics team providers perform all the services as offered within the GEC (Geriatrics and Extended Care) service line. Providers will operate in a team known as the Geriatric PACT (Patient Aligned Care Team), also known as the Geri-PACT. PACT involves veterans working collaboratively with healthcare professionals to plan for their whole-person care and life-long health and wellness, using a team-based approach, led by the geriatric physician. Services include both providing direct patient care and clinical guidance to mid-level providers. The incumbent participates in the progressive improvement of the service delivery, which may include programmatic participation in initiatives within the facility. Job duties are as follows:

Staff are ultimately responsible for all aspects of medical care, evaluating the patient to assess changes in both physical and mental status. Included in this is documentation of the associated encounters.

A Geriatrics provider is responsible for coordinating care with providers within and outside of GEC, and other divisions within the KCVA structure and COBC clinics as dictated by the plan of care for the veteran. Open, clear, and collaborative engagements are an emphasized duty.

There will be opportunities to become involved with resident education, as there is a collaboration with the University of Kansas Medical Center, as well as medical student education through University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Staff within GEC are appropriately credentialled and privileged. They participate in various hospital committees, departmental and hospital in-service programs, and education programs of the department and of the hospital. How is the pension funded? VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period and the VA contributes 12.2% of the employee s salary each pay period for a total annual contribution percentage equal to 16.6% of the employee s salary

Similar to the 401(k) savings plans widely available in the private sector, the TSP allows employees to tax defer a portion of their income each year, subject to the requirements of the Internal Revenue Service. For calendar year 2025, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $23,500, while those over age 50 are eligible to make catch-up contributions that allow them to defer up to $31,000.

The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution

For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension

In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel

Disability Retirement

Employees are vested in a federal pension after only 5 years service
