This Is More Than a Financial Analyst Role

Jefferson Healthcare is looking for an experienced Financial Analyst who understands that healthcare finance is about much more than producing reports or explaining what happened last month.

This person will help leaders understand why something happened.

Why did revenue move?

What is driving a variance?

Does the data make sense?

Is what we are seeing a meaningful operational change—or simply normal fluctuation?

And when something does not add up, this analyst will be expected to follow the question all the way back to its source.

The Financial Planning & Analysis team at Jefferson Healthcare is continuing to grow and evolve, creating an opportunity for someone who enjoys not only analyzing financial performance, but also building better processes, improving reporting, asking good questions, and helping leaders make better decisions.

The strongest candidates will bring at least three years of healthcare financial analysis experience and already understand the fundamentals of hospital revenue, reimbursement, budgeting, forecasting, and operations.

Compensation + Schedule

Salary: $67,470.14 – $101,205.23 annually, depending on experience

Employment: Full-Time | 1.0 FTE | 40 hours per week

Schedule: Day shift | No weekends

Work Arrangement: Primarily Remote

The Financial Analyst will work remotely while remaining actively engaged and collaborative with the Jefferson Healthcare team.

Jefferson Healthcare expects travel to Port Townsend, Washington, at least once annually for planned team building.

Travel and lodging for the planned annual visit are covered.

Benefits include medical, dental, vision, paid time off, and additional employee benefits offered by Jefferson Healthcare.

Why Jefferson Healthcare

Jefferson Healthcare is a community-focused healthcare organization serving Port Townsend and the surrounding communities of Washington's Olympic Peninsula.

It is the kind of healthcare organization where financial decisions are not abstract.

Budgets affect staffing.

Staffing affects access.

Operational performance affects the services that can remain available locally.

And strong financial stewardship helps ensure that a community can continue receiving exceptional healthcare close to home.

The FP&A team partners with leaders throughout the organization to understand performance, identify opportunities, improve financial and operational processes, and support thoughtful decision-making.

For someone who loves healthcare finance but also wants to understand what the numbers mean to the people and community behind them, this is an especially meaningful opportunity.

What You Will Do

As Financial Analyst, you will work across financial, operational, labor, and clinical information to help Jefferson Healthcare understand performance and make informed decisions.

Your work will include:

Developing, maintaining, and enhancing financial reports, dashboards, scorecards, and business intelligence tools

Supporting annual operating and capital budgets

Developing financial forecasts and supporting long-range financial planning

Performing budget-to-actual variance analysis

Identifying financial and operational trends, risks, and opportunities

Analyzing gross and net patient revenue

Understanding contractual adjustments, payors, reimbursement, and the operational drivers behind financial performance

Preparing routine and ad hoc analyses for executive leadership, service-line leaders, and department managers

Developing financial models supporting ROI, business planning, capital investments, and organizational growth

Evaluating the financial performance of departments, service lines, strategic initiatives, and investments

Supporting position control and labor productivity analysis

Partnering directly with department leaders to explain financial results, expectations, key drivers, and opportunities

Translating complex financial information into clear and actionable information for non-financial leaders

Reconciling and validating financial and operational data

Identifying inconsistencies or data-quality issues and tracing problems back to their source

Working with data from multiple financial, operational, and business intelligence systems

Maintaining consistent reporting definitions, assumptions, methodologies, and documentation

Helping improve reporting accuracy and financial business processes

Managing multiple priorities independently while recognizing what requires further investigation versus normal variance or noise

You will collaborate with teams including:

Accounting

Revenue Cycle

Data Analytics

Clinical Informatics

Human Resources

Supply Chain

Operational leadership

Executive leadership

Healthcare Experience Matters

For this particular search, healthcare financial analysis experience is important.

There is a significant learning curve associated with hospital revenue, reimbursement, payors, contractual adjustments, and healthcare operations.

For that reason, Jefferson Healthcare is seeking candidates with:

A minimum of three years of progressively responsible financial analysis experience in a healthcare environment.

Candidates should already understand the fundamentals of healthcare finance and be capable of getting up to speed quickly within the organization.

What You Will Bring

Required

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Economics, Statistics, or a related field

Minimum three years of progressively responsible financial analysis experience in a healthcare environment

Healthcare budgeting experience

Financial forecasting experience

Financial modeling experience

Variance analysis experience

Knowledge of healthcare financial operations and reimbursement methodologies

Understanding of gross and net patient revenue

Understanding of contractual adjustments and payors

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

Experience with financial reporting and business intelligence applications

Strong reconciliation and data-validation abilities

Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills

Ability to interpret complex financial, operational, and statistical data

Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences

Ability to organize and manage multiple projects and priorities

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to work with considerable independence

Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills

Ability to work successfully in a primarily remote environment while remaining engaged with the team

SQL Will Make You Stand Out

SQL proficiency is highly preferred.

This role works directly with information coming from multiple systems.

A candidate who can independently:

Query data

Extract data

Join information from multiple sources

Validate results

Reconcile inconsistencies

Troubleshoot discrepancies

Trace questionable information back to its source

will bring tremendous value to the team.

Jefferson Healthcare is especially interested in someone who is comfortable getting into the data rather than relying entirely on someone else to provide the answer.

Experience That Will Stand Out

Not every item below is required.

However, Jefferson Healthcare would be particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

Critical Access Hospital experience

Rural or community healthcare

Medicare Cost Report

Position control

Labor productivity

Financial components of workforce management

Healthcare reimbursement methodologies

Infor / Infor CloudSuite

Strata / StrataJazz

Symplr Workforce or Outcomes Analytics

Tableau

Power BI

Epic

Other healthcare financial or business intelligence platforms

Professional credentials that would also be attractive include:

Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP / HFMA)

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Certified Management Accountant (CMA)

Comparable healthcare finance or accounting certification

A master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, or a related field is also preferred, but not required.

The Person Who Will Thrive Here

Technical ability matters.

But so does how you think.

The strongest fit for this team will be someone who is:

Curious

Dependable

Collaborative

Self-directed

Analytical

Comfortable taking ownership

Comfortable with ambiguity

Willing to ask thoughtful questions

Able to work without a high degree of structure

Interested in understanding the story behind the numbers

Comfortable partnering directly with leaders throughout an organization

Motivated to improve systems and processes rather than simply work within them

Jefferson Healthcare's FP&A team is still relatively new, and its processes continue to evolve.

For the right person, that is part of what makes this opportunity exciting.

There is room to think.

Room to build.

Room to improve.

And room to help shape how financial planning and analysis continues to support the organization.

You Notice When Something Doesn't Make Sense

This may be one of the most important qualities Jefferson Healthcare is looking for.

They want someone who notices.

Someone who can look at a report and think:

That doesn't make sense.

And then investigate.

Ask questions.

Validate the information.

Find where the discrepancy originated.

Understand whether it represents a real operational issue.

And follow it all the way through to resolution.

This is not simply a role for someone who completes the assigned analysis and moves on to the next spreadsheet.

It is for someone who wants to understand why.

Remote, But Still Part of the Team

This position is primarily remote, but remote does not mean disconnected.

The Financial Analyst will need to be highly self-directed while remaining responsive, collaborative, and actively engaged with the FP&A team and leaders across Jefferson Healthcare.

You should be comfortable:

Managing your own workload

Prioritizing competing requests

Communicating proactively

Asking for context when needed

Following issues through without extensive supervision

Building relationships with people you may primarily work with virtually

The team also values spending intentional time together, which is why travel to Port Townsend is expected at least once annually for planned team building, with travel and lodging covered.

Why This Role Matters

Behind every healthcare budget, forecast, reimbursement assumption, staffing decision, service-line analysis, and operational variance are real healthcare services being delivered to real people.

Strong financial analysis gives healthcare leaders the ability to see what is happening sooner.

To understand why.

To make adjustments.

To invest wisely.

To use resources responsibly.

And ultimately, to preserve and strengthen healthcare services for the community they serve.

The Financial Analyst will help Jefferson Healthcare make those connections.

If you love healthcare finance, enjoy solving complicated problems, are naturally curious about data, and want your work to contribute to a community-focused healthcare organization, we would love to learn more about you.
