Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Financial Reporting Manager supports the financial operationsof Fairmont State University by collecting, reviewing and analyzingfinancial data for external and internal financial reportingrequirements. This role assists in producing timely, accurate andcompliant financial reports while adhering to federal, state andinstitutional regulations and guidelines, maintains strongcommunication and relationships with the campus community and keyfinancial stakeholders.
Operational Duties
Internal Reporting – Assist with monthly, quarterly and year-end closing activities,including but not limited to preparing accrual entries, completing,reviewing and correcting journal entries, account reconciliations,and financial data to ensure the accuracy of financialinformation
Collect interim financial data, identify significant variances,interpret data, and collaborate with the Finance team to compilemonthly financial statements
Create regular, recurring and ad hoc internal reports as neededto support university-wide decision-making
Internal reporting includes but is not limited to financialstatements, capital project budget reports, fixed asset reports andproformas
External Reporting – Collaborate with Institutional Resources to complete allrequired and requested external reporting in compliance with state,federal and higher education reporting requirements for variousthird-party stakeholders
External reporting includes but is not limited to InternalRevenue Service ( IRS ), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA ), Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS),Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC ) and the State of WestVirginia.
Audit Coordination – Assist Finance leaders with the preparation of the University’sannual audited consolidated financial statements, ensuring accuracyand compliance with policies, federal and state laws, GenerallyAccepted Accounting Principles ( GAAP ) and Governmental AccountingStandards Board ( GASB ) standards. Duties include but are notlimited to developing workpapers, preparing schedules, creating andreviewing journal entries and collecting documentation.
Audits include but are not limited to National CollegiateAthletic Association ( NCAA ), Research & Development (R&D)and Single Financial Audit (SFA )
Process Improvement & Systems Optimization
Policy Development: Work with Finance team to evaluate, update,implement and document departmental and university-wide financialpolicies and procedures.
Unit Collaboration: Collaboration includes but is not limitedto, partnering with the Finance Team to ensure accurate and timelyfinancial reporting and to ensure alignment between budget andactual reporting; and collaborating with departments across theuniversity to promote clear understanding of financial data andprocesses
Improvement: Drive continuous improvement by automating manualprocesses and enhancing ERP system functionality in conjunctionwith the State of WV’s ERP system
Other
Participates in other projects and performs other duties asassigned.
Minimum Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administrationor a related business field (or equivalent combination of educationand experience).

Minimum Required Qualifications
3-5 years prior experience with Finance, Accounting or Budgets,however, any equivalent combination of education and/or experienceis acceptable which provides an applicant with the listedknowledge, skills, abilities and capability to perform theessential functions of the job
High attention to detail and strong written and verbalcommunication skills
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including formulas, datasorting, and pivot tables).
Strict ethical standards for handling data confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with higher education finances
Experience with annual audit coordination
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted AccountingPrinciples ( GAAP ) and Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB )
