Job description
Position Summary:
Engineers and Conductors are responsible for the safe and efficient movement of freight trains, placing rail cars to facilitate loading and unloading, and makeup/breakdown trains in a rail yard, customer facility or similar locations.
General duties include:
Review instructions from dispatchers and other train crew members
Receive and transmit information by radio and telephone
Assist and instruct train crews to couple and uncouple cars, operate switches, and make minor repairs to railcars
Work with customer service to ensure accurate movement and placement of cars
Maintain awareness of surrounding area and suspicious activity to ensure rail safety
Observe, interpret, and relay signals and other indications affecting movement of trains
Make adjustments with moving and positioning of rail equipment
Maintain a professional demeanor and positive attitude while interacting with coworkers and customers
Job requirements:
18 years of age or older
High School Diploma or GED
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Ability to work from written and verbal instructions
Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, adhere to work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
Must be able to work varying hours, including weekends and overtime as required
Must be able to occasionally work in varying weather conditions
Must be able to submit to and be able to pass a drug screen
Maintain a good attendance record
Must be able to pass a background check
Must be willing to wear required personal protective equipment
Physical requirements:
Must be able to stand and walk on uneven surfaces for extended periods of time
Must be able to carry and lift 30 lbs. frequently and push and pull 75 lbs. frequently
Must be able to carry and lift occasionally 50-90 lbs., push and pull 250 lbs. and grip 100 lbs.
Rate of pay:
$24.00 to $27.00 depending on experience and relevant qualifications
Employment with FGLK is contingent upon the successful completion of job function demands and medical examination. The examination includes a drug screen and assessment to ensure that candidates can safely perform the essential functions of the job. In addition, the company conducts for-cause, post-accident, and random drug & alcohol testing of its employees.
