Job description

Finish Hone OperatorPay: $25.00 – $30.00+ per hour, based on experience Shift: 1st Shift | 5:00 AM – 3:00 PM Employment Type: Direct Hire Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Finish Hone Operator to join a growing manufacturing team. This position is responsible for setting up and operating horizontal honing equipment to finish the internal surfaces of precision metallic barrels used in injection and extrusion molding equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a machine shop, strong mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work with precision measuring equipment to maintain tight tolerances. Experience with honing equipment is preferred, but candidates with strong machine shop experience and the ability to learn are encouraged to apply.ResponsibilitiesSet up and operate horizontal honing machines to finish metallic barrels to close-tolerance specifications.Perform preventive maintenance and routine adjustments on honing equipment.Secure workpieces using appropriate fixtures, clamps, and tooling.Select appropriate feed rates, honing speeds, coolant flow, and depth of cut based on material and job requirements.Replace worn honing stones and maintain tooling as needed.Inspect finished components using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, dial indicators, and other inspection gauges.Read and interpret work orders, drawings, blueprints, specifications, safety procedures, and operating instructions.Set up and operate straightening equipment to achieve required specifications.Use hand tools, hammers, air chisels, and other equipment to straighten large steel barrels to required tolerances.Set up and safely operate propane/propylene torches as required.Mix coolant and verify coolant ratios using a refractometer.Maintain accurate quality and production standards.Identify and address equipment or process issues and make appropriate adjustments.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.Follow all company safety and environmental policies.Participate in continuous improvement efforts focused on quality, productivity, scrap reduction, and downtime.Operate material-handling equipment, including overhead cranes, as required.Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications2–3 years of machine shop experience or equivalent hands-on training.High school diploma or GED preferred/required.Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work instructions.Experience using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and dial indicators.Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.Ability to work independently and take initiative.Professional attitude and strong work ethic.Experience with honing equipment is preferred; OTW Hone experience is a plus but not required.Ability to learn and use computer-based work-order and production systems.Willingness to work overtime when required.Physical RequirementsAbility to stand and walk for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.Ability to lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds on an occasional basis.Ability to safely operate material-handling equipment.Ability to perform bending, climbing, and other physical activities associated with machine-shop work.Good vision and hearing necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.Ability to communicate effectively in English.Why Join Us?Direct-hire opportunity with a stable, full-time employer.Benefits eligible from Day 1.$25–$30+ per hour, based on experience.3 weeks of PTO, prorated based on your start date within the calendar year.Paid holidays.401(k) with company matching up to 4.5%.401(k) eligibility after 30 days of employment.$150 annual boot reimbursement.Company-provided uniforms.Climate-controlled manufacturing environment.Opportunity to work with precision-machined components and advanced manufacturing equipment.Long-term career growth with a company that values quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
