Diploma or GED equivalentPreferred1 year of customer service and computer experienceLicenses and Certifications RequiredFire Service Communications from The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) within 180 Days.Must successfully complete any additional background checks required for the position, which may include a CJIS background check, federal background check, or other applicable screenings (e.g., FAA) Upon Hire Date.Position OverviewUnder basic supervision, answers and processes emergency and non-emergency calls for the Waco Fire Department (WFD), emergency services agencies, and the general public; dispatches appropriate fire department resources and provides radio communications support to emergency responders.Essential FunctionsAnswers emergency and non-emergency calls for fire, personal assistance and emergency medical assistance; determines appropriate call classification and priority.Takes information from callers and enters information into the computer database; provides assistance and information.Dispatches appropriate resources and monitors active radio traffic; manages resources for appropriate coverage of the city; maintains radio and dispatching equipment.May be required to respond afterhours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency.Required for All JobsPerforms other related duties as assigned.Complies with all policies and standards.Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.Lives the City of Waco Values.BenefitsThe City of Waco offers a complete benefits package for eligible employees including; health, dental, vision, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance, long term and short term disability, retirement, deferred compensation plans, holidays, vacation, sick leave, credit union and savings bonds.
