Job description
Fire InspectorConducts fire inspections of businesses, commercial buildings, schools, day care centers, nursing homes and places of public assembly for existing or potential fire hazards; enforces fire section of state building code and NFPA codes.Schedules and supervises annual fire inspections; conducts follow-up inspections to ensure that deficient conditions are corrected; prepares and submits reports of deficiencies; issues civil penalties for noncompliance when appropriate.Answers questions from private citizens, contractors and builders; researches manuals and code books for solutions and responses to violations; responds to complaints.Conducts fire prevention education programs, lectures and demonstrations upon request.Maintains accurate inspection records; enters inspection information in computer.Reviews construction plans for new buildings and performs code compliance inspections during the construction process as needed to assist the Town Fire Marshal.Performs the duties of a firefighter on major fire calls when directed to respond.Performs related duties as required.
