Firefighter ParamedicThe City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Firefighter Paramedic in the Fire Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to learn and perform all duties required to effectively respond to emergency fire suppression and basic life support medical situations. You will be assigned to a truck or engine, typically in a three or four-person crew, and will respond to fires, medical emergencies, and other emergency and non-emergency situations.Minimum qualifications include graduation from high school or GED equivalent, valid California Paramedic License, NREMT Paramedic Certification, or actively participating in a paramedic internship. Additional requirements include a Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Card of Completion, successful completion of the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) written exam, valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, and proof of vaccination to include TDaP, TB, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella (Chicken Pox), and Influenza. Titers demonstrating immunity may be substituted for the proof of vaccination.Applications must be received by Monday, October 12, 2026, at 5:00 PM PST and must include a completed application, all required certifications and licenses attached as photos/scans, and responses to supplemental questions. Supplemental attachments must include valid California Paramedic License, NREMT Paramedic Certification, proof of active participation in a paramedic internship, valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Card of Completion, valid proof of successful completion of the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) written exam, valid CFSTES or IFSAC/ProBoard Firefighter I Certification, valid driver's license, and proof of vaccinations.The exam process will include application review for minimum qualifications and required documents, tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.Benefited employees receive a myriad of financial and other benefits, including CalPERS pension and other retirement plans, medical and dental coverage, tuition reimbursement, paid time off and more. Benefit-eligible employees include those with a regular work schedule of at least 20 hours per week. Employees working less than 30 hours per week may receive pro-rated benefits.
