Fleet Mechanic I

Information

Pay Range (Grade): $24.14 - $42.23 ($H400)

Hiring Pay Range: $24.14 - $25.35

Other Compensation Offered: Overtime, Compensatory Time

Employment Type: Full-Time, 40 hours per week

Organization: Public Works - Fleet Management/Warehouse Operations

Location: Maintenance Center

Reports to: Fleet Management Foreman

Classification: Non-Exempt (40919)

What You Will Do

As a Fleet Mechanic I, you will perform basic services on vehicles and road equipment in accordance with all applicable industry standards, laws and regulations. Under the direction of the Foreman, you will apply your mechanical knowledge and skills to provide services to Fleet Assets. We are looking for a team player with basic knowledge of vehicle repair.

Essential Duties Perform preventative maintenance services for county vehicles and equipment. Make basic vehicle repairs.

Perform Maryland Department of Transportation (DOT) safety inspections.

Diagnose and make basic repairs to mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and HVAC components.

Assist with fleet asset fabrications.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of mechanical methods, trends, and techniques.

Gather proper materials and tools in preparation for jobs. Use resources effectively.

Operate diagnostic computer equipment.

Collect and record data using computerized Fleet Management systems, including logging daily work and preventative maintenance tasks.

Support responses to road service calls. Assist in providing services using mobile equipment and tools.

Assist other Mechanics with projects and repairs.

Follow all established safety rules and regulations. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.

Complete assigned work in a timely fashion. Accept feedback.

Demonstrate an ability to collaborate and a willingness to learn. Participate in a supportive work environment.

You Might Be a Good Fit If

Education and Experience High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)

One or more years of related experience

A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.

Required Licenses and Certifications Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) (or must obtain within 6 months of employment)

Forklift Operator license (or must obtain within 6 months of employment)

Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card

Preferred Licenses and Certifications Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification

Additional Information Requires criminal background check as condition of employment.

Must supply tools for use on job.

Employees shall be subject to alcohol, drug and/or controlled substance testing, including but not limited to random testing.

May be required to work outside of standard hours.

Must meet Carroll County Risk Management driver eligibility requirements

Working Conditions Frequent exposure to potentially adverse environmental conditions, including, but not limited to, chemicals, noise, and airborne particles.

Occasional exposure to potentially adverse weather conditions.

Frequent physical activity: lifting and carrying over 50lbs, climbing ladders and steps, standing/walking, pushing/pulling, bending, reaching, squatting, stooping, kneeling, and related activities.

Must wear appropriate PPE as required.

Operate diagnostic computer and specialty equipment.

Collect and record data using computerized Fleet Management systems, including logging daily work and preventative maintenance tasks.

Follow all established safety rules and regulations. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.

Ensure all work is complete and timely to support department goals. Evaluate feedback and procedures to improve efficiency.
