McLaughlin Research Corporation (MRC) is seeking a Fleet Support Technician who will support the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI. NUWC is the United States Navy's full-spectrum research, development, test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support center for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, and offensive and defensive weapons systems associated with undersea warfare. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, initiative, and resourcefulness and should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment as well as interacting with Fleet, Program Management Office, and other US and foreign Government agency personnel.

Responsibilities: The Fleet Support Engineer will provide support and technical guidance/oversight for missile systems, subsystems, assemblies, components, test equipment, and platforms, assisting the government with investigations of complex problems relating to the performance, operation, maintenance, installation, integration, and modification of missile systems and associated equipment. The role will require a thorough practical knowledge of the assigned missile systems, their associated support and test equipment, tools, and a variety of submarine systems. The Fleet Support Engineer will travel to Fleet activities worldwide to provide subject matter expert-level guidance, training, and technical assistance during ordnance operations. Provide guidance and training pertaining to all aspects of specialized equipment used to support undersea weapon systems under In-Service Engineering Agent Fleet (ISEA) cognizance to the Fleet and to other NUWC Newport departments, Intermediate Maintenance Activities (IMAs), and various other Naval Activities, including installation, operation, maintenance, supply support, and repair/disposition of missile systems and related equipment. Develop and/or review training curricula used for missile systems and equipment, both existing and emergent. Create and integrate Special Operating Procedures for the purpose of enabling ISEA Support personnel to carry out depot-level maintenance and repair actions at Fleet IMAs. These efforts are often highly complex and require the Fleet Support Engineer to possess and maintain the highest levels of technical skills and ability to develop innovative solutions to emergent Fleet weapon system/equipment issues often having no precedent. Position also requires communication with and coordination across multiple organizations and with high-ranking personnel.

Extensive travel to Navy activities as well as maintenance, storage, and/or test areas required (~50%). Explosives Ordnance certification (or capable of being certified) required. Experience with Navy ordnance certification process and ordnance handling operations preferred. Work involves inspection, testing, and handling of live ordnance; use of proper personal protective equipment and adherence to safety precautions required. Physical demands: Role regularly requires extended periods of walking, standing, moderate lifting, and/or bending while observing operations, executing maintenance operations, witnessing tests, examining materials and processes, and/or conducting training of onsite personnel. Experience working with and around crane operations preferred. Familiarity with Tomahawk missiles, Vertical Launching System (VLS) on submarine platforms, and experience with Capsule Launching System (CLS) handling preferred.
