Job description
Flexo Multi-Color Press Operator, ON, Printing Services - Lakeland | Publix Super Markets, Inc.The main function of this position is to print flexographic (Flexo) inks and coatings on a variety of different web substrates, such as coated and uncoated papers, thermal sensitive, and synthetics substrates. This requires the set-up and complete operation of four different pieces of web printing equipment: an eight-color Mark Andy LP -inch wide press with Martin automatic equipment on each end; an eight-color Mark Andy LP -inch wide press with Martin automatic equipment on each end; a five-color Webtron 7.5-inch wide press; and a four-color Webtron 6.5-inch wide press. Responsibilities: A Printing Services Flexo Multi-Color Press Operator typicallyResponsible for the accurate reading and comprehension of written job specifications. Job specifications provide the production details of each job/finished product.Responsible for the safe and efficient make-ready (set up) and complete operation of the four different web Flexo presses.Responsible for the safe and efficient operator maintenance and cleanliness of the four different web Flexo presses.Responsible for the timely and accurate accounting and reporting of production time and materials, via shop-floor data collection terminals.Required QualificationsHigh School diploma or the equivalentPhysical abilities, including: the lifting of up to 70 pounds, extended walking/standing (up to 14 hours/day), bending, and squattingInterpersonal and teamwork skillsAdaptability and versatility (change) skillsWillingness and the ability to work variable work schedules (sometimes with short notice) when and as required by the work load, which may include weekend and/or holiday hours.Math and measurement knowledgePreferred QualificationsAssociate of Science in graphic arts/printingTwo years of eight color Flexo press operationGraphics arts college and/or trade school certification(s)Knowledge of general Publix and Printing Services' policies and proceduresComprehensive printing knowledge with an overall understanding of both pre-press and post-press processesAdvanced flexographic web printing knowledgeUnderstanding of inks and inkingUnderstanding the parts and function of the ink transfer systemUnderstanding the parts and function of a continuous-flow inking systemUnderstanding the various supported and un-supported web printing substratesUnderstanding the parts and function of the UV coating systemAdvanced knowledge of the reproduction aspects of bar codes and the use of a bar-code inspecting/verifying systemUnderstanding the parts and function of the Martin automatic unwind roll to roll butt splicerUnderstanding the parts and function of the drying systemUnderstanding the parts and function of the web tension control system to ensure proper print to print and print to die registration during runUnderstanding the parts and function of the Martin automatic roll-fed transfer rewindUnderstanding quality control methodologies, processes, tools, and measurements with special emphasis on four-color process (CMYK) web printingSpecific and advanced press set-up, operation, and maintenance knowledge of four different Flexo web printing pressesSafety Data Sheets (SDS), Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Shop Floor Data CollectionVolume and weight knowledgeKnowledge of Publix and Printing Services job and code numbering systemsHigh degree of mechanical skillsHigh degree of diagnostic, performance, and problem solving skills and experienceAbility to use various specialized toolsHours of Work6:45pm - 5:30am; Monday - ThursdayFrequency of PayWeeklyMinimum Base Pay23.50Maximum Base Pay31.95Potential Annual Base Pay48,880 - 66,456Year End BonusTo reward associates for their contributions to the company for the calendar year, Publix provides a Holiday Bonus in November. In the first year of continuous employment the bonus is equal to 15 hours of pay, and in the second year of continuous employment the bonus is equal to one week's pay if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check.
