Floor FinisherCleans various soft and hard surface floors by using electrical and battery powered equipment. Maintains high standards of cleanliness, sanitation and freedom from hazards and infections. Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfecting, radiation, asbestos, and other hazardous substances.Work ScheduleMonday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., with rotating weekendsPosition SummaryCleans various soft and hard surface floors using electrical and battery-powered equipment. Maintains high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety to ensure an environment free from hazards and infections. Complies with established personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements to protect against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, asbestos, and other hazardous substances.Job ResponsibilitiesTransports custodial supplies and equipment to and from storage and work areas.Strips, cleans, and/or refinishes hard surface floors using appropriate chemicals and/or mechanical equipment.Extracts or shampoos soft surface floors using proper floor-cleansing chemicals and/or mechanical equipment.Performs detailed cleaning of baseboards, kick plates, corners, edges, and elevator tracks.Performs salvage, corrective, and preventive maintenance on a variety of floor coverings, including but not limited to vinyl, marble, terrazzo, wood, granite (polished and unpolished), ceramic tile, conductive flooring, and cork.Cleans and removes trash from trash and compactor areas.Performs maintenance on electrical and battery-operated floor machines, blowers, industrial wet/dry vacuums, carpet and upholstery shampooing equipment. Report equipment issues as appropriate.Transports furniture and equipment as directed.Handles special projects and daily responsibilities promptly. Communicates all accomplishments and outstanding tasks to the supervisor.Completes required training, certifications, and continuing education, including department-specific requirements such as the Floor Care Maintenance Certification.Maintains regular and predictable attendance.Performs other duties as assigned to meet departmental and institutional goals and objectives.Minimum Education and/or TrainingHigh School Diploma or GED required.Minimum ExperienceOne (1) to two (2) years of floor finishing experience preferred, including operation of housekeeping-related equipment.Previous Environmental Services experience in a hospital or hotel environment preferred.Physical Demands and Working ConditionsMust be able to walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.Frequently required to talk or hear.Must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.Must move throughout the workspace to access surfaces, shelves, cabinets, drawers, and equipment located at, above, or below work surface level.Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, radiation, and vibration.The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.Must comply with all applicable federal, state, and local safety and health regulations.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.This job description reflects management's assignment of essential functions and responsibilities.
