Our Market Grille Clerks are at the center of one of the most exciting parts of the Hy-Vee store, serving up fresh, made-to-order food and creating a warm, welcoming experience for every customer who walks up to the counter. In this role, youll keep things running smoothly by staying on top of orders, handling food safely, and working as part of a team that takes pride in quality and service.

No two shifts are exactly the same, but heres what you can expect:
Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and going the extra mile to make every visit a positive one
Take customer orders at the Market Grille counter and answer the telephone promptly, providing helpful service including taking product orders
Pull product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for cooking and ensure an adequate food supply is ready and on hand
Handle food safely and review the status and appearance of food for freshness at all times
Maintain a clean, sanitary work area throughout your shift
Run the department register, receive payment, and make change where applicable
Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned
Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines
Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables
Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing
Work effectively as part of a team to deliver a great customer experience
Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home; Food Service Director; we will provide all the training you need to succeed
Six months or less of similar or related work experience; prior food service experience is a plus
Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties
This role is performed in a store kitchen environment where things stay busy and engaging throughout your shift. Youll have exposure to noise, equipment movement, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals or solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
