Custodial Worker 1INTERNAL KU STAFF AFSCME APPLICANTS ONLY. No external applicants will be considered for this post, please apply to the 26-27 Custodial Worker 1 position if you are interested in working at KU.This is an emergency essential position.An employee in this class performs a variety of tasks in connection with cleaning functions. Work involves the use of custodial supplies and modern cleaning equipment and may involve the moving and lifting of heavy furniture. Work is performed in accordance with a well-established routine and is subject to inspection during progress or upon completion for the attainment of established standards of cleanliness.The days and hours for this custodian position are Sunday-Thursday 37.5h 23:00-07:00.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to read and understand written materialsAbility to follow oral and written instructionsAbility to communicate effectively orallyAbility to communicate effectively in writingAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationshipsMinimum Qualifications:No previous experience or training required.Preferred Qualifications:Minimum of one year cleaning or manual labor experienceStable employment history—a minimum of one year with the same employerOne year of work experience that includes cleaning in an institutional environmentOne year of work experience related to floor care including carpet cleaning, scrubbing/waxing, and stripping and waxingSupplemental Information:Internal KU AFSCME staff application materials should be received no later than the end of the day on October 3, 2026.
