nSuffolk County Community College is the largest community college in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, enrolling more than 26,000 students at its three campuses in Selden, Brentwood, and Riverhead, as well as its Culinary Arts Center in Riverhead. Established in 1959, the college offers a wide array of transfer-oriented associate degrees in the liberal arts and sciences; business; communications and the arts; computing and cybersecurity; health sciences; and many other areas. Career-facing degrees and certificates are offered in allied health professions, automotive technology, culinary and baking, manufacturing, and many other areas. The college provides high school concurrent enrollment opportunities to thousands of students each year through both Suffolk’s Beacon program and through on-campus early college classes. Designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic Serving Institution, Suffolk enrolls thousands of students in English Language Learning courses, and also serves more service veterans and military-connected students than any other college in the SUNY system.
nSUNY Suffolk is searching for a full-time (12-month), tenure-track Professional Assistant (PA) for Nursing beginning Fall 2026, at the Ammerman campus in Selden, NY.
nThis is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the college.
nJob Responsibilities:
nnnSet up and maintain equipment and supplies for laboratory and clinical simulation sessions of courses in the nursing curriculum.
n
nnMaintaining a clean, organized, accessible and well-supplied storage room(s).
n
nnAssist and support in clinical onboarding and orientation of Nursing students and faculty under the direction of the academic chair of the nursing department.
n
nnResponsibilities include routine equipment maintenance, inventory management, order supplies, manage hazardous waste disposal, coordinate laundering of lines, coordinate and supervise, support and assist open-lab practice sessions and provide technical assistance and support to faculty.
n
nnActive participation in departmental, campus, and college committees is required.
n
nnOther duties as assigned by the Academic Chair.
n
n nnThe ideal candidate will demonstrate:
nnnAbility to reinforce foundational nursing skills (vital signs, medication administration, blood administration, sterile technique, wound care, IV therapy, tracheostomy care) through coaching and hands-on guidance.
n
nnSkill in guiding and supporting students during open lab practice sessions with constructive feedback and remediation.
n
nnProficiency in setting up, operating, and troubleshooting nursing lab/simulation equipment (mannequins, task trainers, instructional technology).
n
nnStrong organization and attention to detail to maintain a clean, safe, well‑stocked lab environment aligned with protocols and standards.
n
nnA consistent safety mindset applying infection control and OSHA practices in daily lab operations.
n
n nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
nMinimum:
nnnBachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
n
nnMust possess a current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
n
nnMinimum of one (1) year of clinical RN experience in an acute care hospital (inpatient) setting.
n
nnExperience in a nursing role providing support, guidance, or supervision to newly hired nurses, nursing students, and/or unlicensed assistive personnel.
n
nnProficiency with basic office technology, including Microsoft Word and Excel, to support documentation, inventory management, scheduling, and the maintenance of lab and clinical records.
n
nnKnowledge of infection control principles, OSHA standards, and the safe handling of medical equipment and supplies.
n
n nPreferred Qualifications:
nnnExperience working in a nursing skills lab or simulation lab in a college setting.
n
nnFamiliarity with nursing lab and simulation equipment, including mannequins, task trainers, and related instructional technology.
n
nnExperience supporting open lab student practice sessions.
n
nnExperience with inventory management systems and the handling, tracking, and organization of lab supplies and equipment.
n
