Founding Machine Learning Engineer
Salary
$220k-$280k + Equity
Company Description
Glauc is a technical healthcare startup building a biological health measurement layer using smartphone eye imaging, supported by a proprietary dataset from Harvard-affiliated researchers at Mass Eye and Ear.
Job Description
As the founding ML engineer at Glauc, you will own the core science and technical direction for extracting biological signals from eye images. You will build and deploy production-grade models from scratch using a unique research dataset, transforming clinical insights into a commercial API product for longevity and health-AI companies.
Location
San Francisco, USA
Why this role is remarkable
Access a proprietary dataset developed with Harvard-affiliated researchers at Mass Eye and Ear that provides a data advantage most of the field cannot access.
Join as the first ML hire with a clear trajectory to Head of ML as the company scales following its current funding rounds.
Solve a massive healthcare problem by making biological measurement as accessible as a phone camera, moving the industry from reactive to proactive care.
What You Will Do
Own the end-to-end ML pipeline, from data curation and model architecture to training and deploying production-ready computer vision models for biomarker prediction.
Design rigorous, leakage-free validation frameworks to ensure clinical credibility and model generalization across diverse devices, capture conditions, and populations.
Establish the engineering foundations for the ML organization, including experiment tracking, reproducibility, and monitoring standards that all future hires will inherit.
The ideal candidate
Has a strong applied ML background in computer vision, specifically with image models or medical imaging, and deep fluency in Python and PyTorch.
Brings a proven track record of shipping ML models into fast-scaling production systems that real-world users and commercial customers depend on.
Demonstrates high technical rigor and the ability to thrive in an ambiguous, ground-floor startup environment where you will set precedents rather than follow them.
