You'll bring bold, genuinely native fluency in current social media culture, sharp instincts for what actually works with online audiences, a real understanding of platform algorithms, and the on-camera presence and creative range to build both trust and virality.
Core Responsibilities
Own the overall marketing strategy for the business
Audit existing social accounts and deliver an honest, specific first assessment of what's working, what isn't, and what you'd change immediately
Build and run organic growth strategy across TikTok, Instagram, and other relevant platforms
Stay up to date with platform shifts, format trends, and what's working for other authors in the space—and be able to act on changes quickly
Community management—replying to comments and messages in the author's voice where appropriate
Create, appear in, and direct on-camera video content designed to resonate across reader audiences
Run and optimize paid advertising, including Amazon Ads and Meta Ads
Develop and execute marketing and PR plans for book launches
Own email/newsletter strategy and drive subscriber growth
Bring forward bold, envelope-pushing content ideas grounded in a real understanding of platform algorithms
Identify and brief influencer and content-creator partnerships
Collaborate closely with the Director of Operations and founder on brand direction, campaign sign-off, and overall growth strategy
Skills
Proven track record of measurable growth for other authors, brands, creators, or businesses — able to show real results
Deep, native fluency in current social media culture and trends, including a genuine read on Gen Z audiences and behavior
Understands what's currently working across the romance author/BookTok space, what readers want, and how to reach them
Comfortable and engaging on camera, with the range to build a real, trustworthy personal brand presence
Experience with Amazon Ads and/or Meta Ads, or demonstrated ability to self-direct that learning quickly
Background in brand strategy or growth marketing — startup, creative-industry, or entrepreneurial experience is a strong plus
Comfortable working with dark, high-heat romance books
Strong creative judgment — able to push boundaries thoughtfully and within platform guidelines
Excellent communicator and self-starter, comfortable operating with real autonomy
Romance or publishing industry experience is a bonus
Why This Role
This is a rare position for a marketer who wants real ownership over the growth of a bestselling indie author business.
This is a fully remote position. Proximity to New York City is a plus, but it is not a requirement. Initial three month trial period of 15 hours a week, with scope to grow beyond these initial hours as impact is proven.
