Facility:
This is a well-established health system in East Texas offering comprehensive gastroenterology services, including a fully equipped GI lab and a dedicated clinic team. The facility supports a busy hospitalist service, two NPs, and one PA-C working within the GI clinic, providing strong team-based care for both inpatient and outpatient populations.
Opportunity:
Physician (MD) - Internal Medicine - Gastroenterology
Job Details:
Provide locum tenens gastroenterology coverage for a high-demand GI service line in Tyler, TX
Perform scheduled colonoscopies on a Monday through Friday schedule
Conduct inpatient GI consults from the previous night following scheduled procedures
Provide additional GI lab services as needed following scheduled colonoscopies
5-7 patient encounters per shift in a 7-bed department
Active Texas medical license required
Board certification required (Certified minimum)
Fellowship training required
ABLS, ACLS, ATLS, and BLS certifications required
Credentialing timeframe approximately 30-60 days
Nearest major airport: DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth)
Required procedural skills include:
Upper GI endoscopy with biopsy, foreign body removal, fulguration of bleeder, and injection of varices
ERCP - both diagnostic and therapeutic
Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG)
Esophageal dilatation/manometry and esophageal manometry interpretation
Small bowel biopsy
Lower GI endoscopy and sigmoidoscopy (flexible and rigid)
Colonoscopy with biopsy and excision of polyp
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
Liver biopsy
Insertion and management of Sengstaken/Blakemore tube
Compensation:
Competitive hourly rates with weekly pay and malpractice included.
