General Maintenance Worker IIPerform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout the district. Assist with maintenance of grounds.Qualifications:Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED certificateAssociate Degree preferredTrade Certification preferred (Examples: HVAC, Electrical, Building Construction, Plumbing)Special Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of computers preferredAbility to follow verbal and written instructionsKnowledge of construction and routine maintenance and repair proceduresAbility to communicate effectively (written and verbally)Ability to operate hand and power toolsAbility to work independentlyAbility to work at heights is requiredAbility to operate heavy equipment preferredAbility to work a flexible work schedule, including nights and weekendsThree (3) years' experience in general building maintenanceMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilitiesInspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs as neededDetect and report needed repairs on building structures, including lockers, furniture, equipment, and flooringAssist with roof repairs (metal, shingles, built-up, etc.) as neededPerform preventive maintenance tasks as directedStripe and paint parking lots and curbs as neededAssist with the installation of portable buildings as neededReceive and complete work orders as directed by maintenance foremanAssist with mowing and detailing of district groundsMove, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as neededRespond to emergency calls as neededResponsible for overseeing the Apprentice Program as the after-hours crew leaderFollow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbingOperate equipment and use tools according to established safety proceduresCorrect unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisorMaintain tools and equipment in working orderPerform other duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibilities:Supervise the Student Apprentice Program as the after-hours crew leaderEquipment Used:Various hand tools, such as drills, socket set, screwdrivers, and test equipment and recovery machine and gaugesWorking Conditions:Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfacesFrequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazardsWork around machinery with moving partsMay work aloneRegularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travelMental Demands:Maintain emotional control under stress
