Job description
We’re looking for a General Manager to help lead our Phoenix cafés. This role is for someone who enjoys building strong teams, creating a great experience for guests, and taking ownership of how their locations perform day to day.
Our General Managers are hands-on leaders. You’ll spend time in our cafés working alongside teams while also coaching employees, managing store performance, keeping an eye on labor and waste, and making sure each location is running the way it should.
This is a full-time salaried role with benefits, coffee perks, and paid time off.
Summary
The General Manager is responsible for the overall operation and performance of the Phoenix locations they oversee, with a focus on both the employee and guest experience.
You’ll lead teams day to day, set expectations, coach and develop employees, and make sure Cartel’s standards for service, beverage quality, cleanliness, and hospitality are consistently met across locations.
You’ll also own the business side of your locations. General Managers are responsible for understanding store performance and working with the Retail Operations Manager to grow sales, manage labor, reduce waste, and identify opportunities to improve the business.
This is a hands-on role. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable moving between locations, leading a shift, coaching an employee, reviewing store performance, solving an operational problem, and connecting with the communities around our cafés.
Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day operation and performance of assigned Phoenix locations
Lead, coach, and develop store teams while creating a consistent employee and guest experience across locations
Hire, onboard, train, and develop employees
Build strong store cultures while holding teams accountable to company expectations and standards
Oversee scheduling and staffing based on the needs of each location
Monitor key performance indicators including sales, labor, waste, and other controllable costs
Partner with the Retail Operations Manager to identify opportunities and improve store performance
Maintain standards around beverage quality, service, cleanliness, food safety, and overall store environment
Coach employees through performance concerns and identify opportunities for continued development
Ensure company policies, procedures, and operational systems are consistently followed
Oversee inventory, ordering, and product availability while working to reduce unnecessary waste
Troubleshoot store issues and communicate operational needs as they arise
Build relationships within the surrounding communities and look for opportunities to grow store traffic and engagement
Work behind the bar and alongside teams as part of regular store operations
Qualifications
We’re looking for someone with leadership experience in coffee, restaurants, hospitality, retail, or another fast-paced customer-facing environment.
You may be a good fit if you:
Have experience managing and developing teams
Are comfortable overseeing multiple priorities, teams, or locations
Enjoy being a hands-on leader and working alongside your employees
Can coach people, give clear feedback, and navigate difficult conversations
Are comfortable understanding store performance and using numbers to make decisions
Can balance employee experience, guest experience, and the financial needs of the business
Are organized and comfortable managing schedules, staffing, inventory, and competing priorities
Can create accountability while still being an approachable and supportive leader
Can identify problems and work toward practical solutions
Have strong customer service and communication skills
Have or can obtain an Arizona Food Handler Card
Coffee experience is a plus, but it isn’t the only way to be successful in this role. Experience leading teams in restaurants, food and beverage, hospitality, retail, or another customer-facing environment can translate well here too.
Compensation & Benefits
This is a full-time, salaried position with an annual salary of $50,000.
Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, 401(k), and employee coffee perks.
