Job description

About Wally

84% of Americans want to go to the dentist this year. 40% will. For fifty years, dentistry has run on simple math: get someone in the chair, find something to fix, bill the insurance, charge the patient, repeat. It works for them. It doesn't work for you.

Wally is different: No insurance, just a $249 per year membership to get the most modern preventative oral care experience: advanced diagnostics with AI-driven insights AND unlimited Swiss Airflow cleanings. Plus, based on your needs, we offer exclusive access to treatments like cavity reversal so you never need to get drilled again. Unlimited, affordable, and proactive. The future is not more dentistry, it's to do less, better.

We recently closed our Series A to scale from 14 locations to 100s of locations across the USA. Our round was led by Maveron, with participation from existing investors including Bling Capital. Maveron, the consumer-focused firm founded by Starbucks' Howard Schultz, invests in companies that fundamentally change how people do everyday things. That's exactly what we're doing with dental care.

The Role

Chicago's General Manager is the "CEO of the city": driving growth, operations, and everything in between. This role sits at the intersection of spreadsheets and sidewalks: owning the P&L, leading the team, delivering the experience, and turning Chicagoan’s into members while making the brand a part of the city.

What you’ll do

Own Chicago's P&L: Manage the local city budget, profit margins, and financial forecasting.

Grow our local team: Lead, hire, train, and develop our local operations and clinical team.

Initiate creative (local) marketing: Design and execute hyper-local growth campaigns and local partnerships that put Wally in front of new members: influencers, employers, gyms, buildings, and neighborhood businesses.

Build the supply-side: Recruit, onboard, and manage the top clinicians in the city and ensure staffing is optimized to demand.

Ensure operational excellence: Own the studio leaders' and clinical team's performance. Manage supplies and logistics to ensure our supply side operations are keeping up with demand and that our team is providing an exceptional experience for our members.

Manage key relationships (and details): Handle the local realities a growing retail healthcare business runs into: licensing, inspections, landlords and co-working space teams, and whatever else the city produces this week.

Work with the HQ: Translate local product, feature, and process requirements to our HQ team.

Deepen our footprint in the city: When a market operates successfully, we need more supply. This means knowing when and how to launch new studios and take them from launch day to full stride as quickly as possible.

What you need to have

Professional Background: 5+ years of experience in management consulting, investment banking, hospitality, high-growth tech, fast-growing start-up operations, or marketing management.

Analytical Mindset: A data-driven decision-making mentality coupled with strong business judgment.

Hustle & Execution: A creative, solutions-driven mindset with a relentless "get things done" bias toward action. No clinical experience needed, just fierce curiosity to learn an industry you may know nothing about.

You know Chicago: the neighborhoods, the commutes, and what makes someone choose one studio over another.

Networking & Business Development: Relationship-building skills to forge high-impact local partnerships.

Pain tolerance to change an industry: A love for solving problems and a drive to create transformational, lasting impact no matter how hard it is.
