General Manager (ELT Member) - Purcell Facilities Management
Purcell Facilities Management (Purcell Cleaning) is seeking a hands‑on General Manager to lead all operating activities for the business. Headquartered in Munster, Indiana, Purcell Cleaning provides commercial cleaning and facilities‑management services throughout Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland, including janitorial services, floor care, specialty cleaning, new‑construction cleanup, and eco‑friendly cleaning services.
The General Manager will report to the President and lead geographically dispersed operating teams and customer‑site activities. This individual will be responsible for operational execution, service quality, field leadership, customer responsiveness, and consistent service delivery across the organization. The role will work closely with Finance and HR to coordinate operating priorities, workforce needs, and business decisions across the company.
Purcell Cleaning serves a diverse commercial customer base, including medical offices and hospitals, dental offices, office buildings, banks, realty offices, auto dealerships, and institutional new‑construction projects. The company operates 24/7, 365 days a year, and emphasizes dependable, customized, consistent, efficient, and affordable service.
What you’ll do
Translate priorities from the President into clear operating plans and consistent execution across customer locations.
Lead all operations with a hands‑on, field‑oriented approach.
Manage geographically dispersed, hourly, and site‑based operating teams.
Lead supervisors and employees who may be non‑English‑speaking or have limited English proficiency.
Coach, develop, and hold supervisors and operating teams accountable for performance and service execution.
Establish consistent operating routines, service standards, communication practices, and follow‑through across customer locations.
Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly janitorial programs, along with floor care, carpet cleaning, window washing, wall cleaning, trash disposal, specialty cleaning, and new‑construction cleanup.
Maintain consistent quality, responsiveness, scheduling, and execution across the commercial customer base.
Address operational issues that affect customer satisfaction and ensure appropriate follow‑through across the field organization.
Monitor operating performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and communicate priorities and updates to the President.
Partner with Finance and HR while maintaining clear ownership of Operations.
What you’ll bring
10+ years of progressive leadership experience in commercial cleaning, facilities management, janitorial services, hospitality, or similar industries.
Demonstrated success managing geographically dispersed, hourly, field‑based, or multi‑location workforces.
Bilingual capability, with experience leading employees who may have limited English proficiency.
A track record of establishing clear operating standards, processes, and accountability across multiple locations.
Demonstrated success improving service quality, productivity, consistency, and customer satisfaction.
Experience leading, coaching, and developing supervisors and front‑line leaders within a diverse workforce.
Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills, with the judgment to prioritize competing field, workforce, and customer needs.
Clear, effective communication skills and the ability to build trust across all levels of the organization.
A hands‑on, practical operating style and the resourcefulness to succeed in a growing business without an overly established playbook.
Results‑oriented, dependable, and solutions‑focused leadership style.
Ability to work in or regularly travel throughout Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland.
